Ambient

Heyyo, new to DVXuser as a poster.

I shot some shorts on my 7D and the scenes call for different ambient sounds. I was wondering what your go-to resource is for these type of sounds? I need restaurant, party, and forest ambient sounds.

I have FCS 3, but might not have installed the sound content yet. Is there anything useful there?

I also need to make sure that the sound can be used without violating copyright because I will be posting these online and submitting to festivals.

Appreciate any help I can get!

Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks so much paul.

If I use Freesound.org, can I just download it and use it? Or do I need to fill out any paperwork or notify the original recordist?

Thanks again!

Anything in the sound library that comes with FCS can be used in your productions without worry of royalties. Read the user agreement, but the usage license for that material comes with the purchase of FCS. It's not an extensive library, but has a few useful things.

Check out the Freesound legal page and references to the creative commons license. In a nutshell you have to credit the creator of the original sound in the credits of your project. Courtesy demands (and I believe Freesound policy is) that you notify the creator of the original sound; I always do (or have the producer do it) when I use something from Freesound and have been notified by some who have used my contributions to the site. A sound from Freesound was used in "Children of Men" and received the proper credit at the end of the film.

LJudo.com is a free resource (creative commons, again) with some nice stuff as well.

You can buy by-the-sound from SoundDogs.com and Sonomic.com.

things like "forest ambient" sounds are actualy different ambients and sounds...

It's not that you can say "I'm going to record A forest ambient"

same for party...you have the talkings, the glasses...movements..

for restaurant you have the talkings, the plates, glasses...
