Why can you not believe it? What exactly about it makes it look like it couldn't have been shot on a 5D?

I see nothing there that makes me think it isn't a 5D.

I think you are reading too many pixel-peeping bashings on the internet. Canon DSLRs are more than capable of shooting beautiful video.

9.5 out of 10 of all of the footage anyone has posted from 5d suffers lack of detail, aliasing, bad rolling shutter, etc. The movement alone impressed me, the colors, the look. I mena look at those wide shots, I never seen ANYONE on this forum post their 5d footage that looks like this.....
Now if I'm wrong please guide me in the correct location, but I'm about 99% sure this is some of the best 5d footage I have seen.

I guess the problem is that you are looking to internet forums for quality 5D footage. You are probably seeing better Canon DSLR footage on TV all the time and not even realizing it.

It's not a point and shoot, it takes skilled hands to get the best from it. Such skill is usually getting paid to shoot, not shooting in order to post on an internet forum.

Ok, sounds great. Regardless lets get back on a positive note here. I like the video, looked great. Now if you, me and so many others here can get this quality from a 5d I want to know how, because on this forum I honestly cannot say I've seen it. Also paid has really nothing to do with it as there are many many people who shoot great stuff and don;t get paid.

Joseph Kahn is not a quy that just posts s*%t on the internet. He actually uses these cams to do work. This video was apparently shot on the 5d mark III which doesn't have aliasing and moire. In his twitter feed he said that the 5d III makes beautiful images. He also said that the FS700 looks like video and didn't like it. A lot of guys that are coming from film backgrounds don't even like too sharp images so the 5d is actually right up their alley.

Ingredients: Great colorist, good shots and editing. You think regular peoples GoPro3 material will look as astounding as their promovideos? Nope. That's what money buys you, the skills. Not the cameras.

If you haven't seen anything good done with the 5d, you haven't really been here at all. There have been like a gazillion very well shot music videos on the 5d. Also films. And tv-series. And commercials. Actually it's the most used DSLR ever on commercial applications. Now that the III doesn't have any aliasing I believe that number will just keep on growing. Though a lot of those videos have been hidden somewhere in this forum ever since they moved off the section somewhere.

Wideshots? Looks great, not as detailed as some other cams but sharpens very well.

Rolling shutter? Same as any other DSLR. In 720p mode it has half the rolling shutter than in 1080p. There were no handheld wobbly shots here and everything was quite controlled. That there is big difference.

Moire? 5d III does not do moire.

Colors? That's just grading. Though I do believe they had some good lighting setups there too to balance the sun.

First, build your own custom picture profile that caters to the color palette that you have planned and the shooting situation that you will find yourself in. Second, light the scene using the tools available to you on the 5-ton grip truck that you've hired for the day. Third, focus and expose your image properly using the tools and scopes that will come with the external monitoring solution you rented/purchased. Fourth, utilize camera movement gear, such as a dolly, steadicam, shoulder-mount system, gyro mount, ect. to help alleviate rolling shutter. Fifth, return footage to post facility and run footage through plugins such as "Dark Energy" to eliminate H.264 image issues and to sharpen the image. Sixth, color correction and grading using primaries, secondaries, power windows, ect. to get the exact look you want.

That's all there is to it.

...That's all there is to it.

None of which comes free ;) meaning, yes you guessed it, PAID.

The HDSLR revolution is only skin deep. Sure the cameras are cheaper, but everything else it takes to make a quality product costs just as much as it ever did.

...paid has really nothing to do with it...

In this case, paid has everything to do with it. Nobody on the set of that video was there for free, everybody was getting paid - and that is exactly why it looks good.

Something tells me that despite the apparently rigorous, scientific standards of evaluation you undoubtedly employ, you have not even seen "9.5 out of 10" of all the footage posted from the 5D.

Not to mention there's a little something called post-production, which incidentally is what separates amazing looking video from just average video...shot on ANY camera.

Its all true; nothing works better than skilled crews, a budget, and proper grip.

However, the 5D3 (and 5D2) are more than capable of making beautiful video as they are. Here is a video by a guy with a 5D, holding it with his hands, using natural available light, with 1 prime lens, while he was on holiday:

I rather like the idea that the video shows that DSLRs CAN take pictures that have everything in focus, when it's needed. Something sadly lacking in most videos we see!

It's the output of it. Export from Premiere to After Effects as a .dpx Image Sequence, then from AE do a final export as H.264 with a CBR of 45.
;)
Will be excellent quality. Watch the short film Copelandia, That is exactly what he did. The quality is excellent.
