Amazing New SONY VENICE Music Video Footage (Lewis Capaldi)

As someone that has been shooting 22+ years and shoots a LOT of handheld and sports related content, small cameras are NOT the answer for everything. It doesn't matter how you build them up, they are not the same as purpose-built shoulder-mount cameras and they (small cams rigged up)slow you down, when speed and efficiency is usually paramount.

Think outside the box- a small camera block that can snap into a large carbon fiber mothership (extending the concept from the VENICE sensor block). With great IBIS, only minimal weight would be needed for balance. Then your shoulder & back, etc. would thank you. Ultra stable footage, super maneuverable, can be any size needed (hollow carbon fiber or plastic composite etc.), can mount displays and other gear as needed. More flexibility = more usability. What's more useful- a manual typewriter or a laptop? Same pattern and analogy is happening for cameras. Those invested in bigger, heavier cameras (such as Alexas, Amiras, or F55s) ideally would be aware of what's coming so they can sell their gear before it depreciates too much.

Agree.

The huge majority of small cameras for A camera fans are people who started shooting on DSLRs and never made the move to professional cameras. A camera is a tool and many times a tiny camera is not the best tool. Not for your A camera.

More than a gimmick/marketing tool- flexibility, speed, opportunity, freedom. Imagine what you could do if you could hook up any sensor and lens mount into any body size and shape and weight of your choice. Soderbergh is showing what is possible with one configuration. Think of a S35 or FF sensor wired into a phone- which already has vastly more computing power than any camera. Where custom software can also be written. Where a communication bus can stream any number of wireless video streams along with two-way control signals to other display/control devices. That’s the future of camera systems and the technology to do it already exists today and has for many years.
