Amazing Milky Way Timelapse

that was awesome. i'm just starting to get into astronomy and got a dobsonian telescope a few weeks ago. unfortunately where i live is heavily light polluted, i can't see the milky way.

Oh very cool! We are in the milky way, right? So that is the 'inner' part of it? Crazy to think we are part of it, yet it is just one of countless! Yowza! I wish I was omniscient and/or had the means of exploring all those stars!

That's why the humans invented films! hahaha to fly far from our world and visit distant places, or at least imagine them and recreate them!

BTW, great video! I love star timelapses, not long ago I went to a place where there was zero light pollution and the view was truly impressive. I wish I had my tripod near.

Yes. Best available mapping shows Sol located near the spinward end of one of the outer arms of the Milky Way galaxy near the ecliptic; the bright Milky Way is most of what we see looking coreward, toward the center of the galaxy.

Beautiful!
Now look up and wave!!!

Some numbers:
The Milky Way Galaxy contains roughly 200 billion stars. Most of these stars are not visible from Earth. Almost everything that we can see in the sky belongs to the Milky Way Galaxy.

The sun (
Sol) is about 26,000 light-years from the center of the milky Way Galaxy, which is about 80,000 to 120,000 light-years across (and less than 7,000 light-years thick). We are located on on one of its spiral arms, out towards the edge. It takes the sun (and our solar system) roughly 200-250 million years to orbit once around the Milky Way.

In 1999 the Hubble Space Telescope estimated that there were 125 billion galaxies in the universe.

So our sun is one of 200 billion stars in the Milky Way, and the Milky Way is one of 125 billion galaxies. Think about it!
The sun is one of 2.5 × 10 (22nd) or 25,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars.

Back on topic- nice time lapse!
