AMA and Edius canopus DV avi files

I started a project in Edius. Only an SD project and just the captures from minidv tapes.

Edius created avi files for each clip and are in the canopus DV codec.

I used AMA to import them and I get audio but no video. Anyone know a fix for this? trying to avoid an transcoded import.

EDIT: Same issue when imprting directly (avid internal transcode). AMA the video is black. "Import", the video is solid white. I get audio on both.

Using MC5 and Edius 5.5

The Canopus DV codec is proprietary, and native to Edius. Most NLEs wouldn't read it. If you are going to want to do this again, don't capture your DV tapes with a proprietary codec. Use the generic MS DV codec or something else that Avid would understand.

AMA is VERY specific in what it can read. Now it is supposed to handle all quicktime so that's a HUGE swath of excellent codecs. It also understand RED's R3D, XDCAM, DVCProHD, and several other types. But I'd strongly suggest if you plan to use AMA in Avid, that you use a Quicktime codec. If you plan to stay in Edius, then the Canopus codec is your best bet.

Yeah but edius captures everything in a canapos codec of some sort. Annoying really. I like the program. (I actually like them both, just they each have strength/weaknesses that work better for diff projects).

I found a conversion program that reflags the Canopus DV into a MSDV. Still you would think that once you have the software installed, the codecs would work in AVID. Even import doesn't work right. I can play the canopus clips with media player, vlc, MC classic etc but not AVID.

Not blaming AVID. Probably some Canopus licensing BS or something.

I can't read my Matrox AVIs in Avid either. Work fine in Vegas. Just the way it is. With MC5, I am moving to an all MOV workflow soon anyway. No point in using .AVI any more.

Damn it. Trying to move another DV project to AVID via AAF and Avid displays blank media. Argh.
