Am I wrong to shoot 30fps in camera on a DVC30?

Hi guys,

Am I shooting myself in the foot by shooting footage on the DVC30's
30fps movie mode?

I really like the way the footage looks.

I've heard it's better to do it in post but I edit on a Mac and don't have Magic Bullet.

This is for a short project to be submitted to film festivals.

So am I a moron or what? I've already shot half of my footage this way.

Thanks!

P.s. The rest of the footage will be shot soon, once I figure out a good mic to put on camera. (I've asked for suggestions on another thread and everyone suggested shotgun mics instead of the unidirectional mic made by Panasonic. If you've got any ideas for the best equiv. to that mic, please also let me know.)

yeah get something directional, away from the camera. i use an "azden sgm1x" without problems outdoors. It's a bit noisy indoors. almost anything you get will be better than the onboard mic.

about the 30p mode of this camera, be aware that it is NOT a real progressive. it makes some use of interpolation. this camera doens't have a native progressive CCD. Panasonic claims is nearly as good as real progressive, but i dont know about that. Anyway if you think it looks good enough, go for it! Also i wouldn't bother shooting 60i and convert to prog. in post.. i dont think you would get much better results than what the camera is able to deliver.

About the mic, bikefilms, the azden sgm-1x is a balanced mic while this camera doesn't have balanced xlr inputs. so, savethestars, if you dont have an xlr adapter, you gotta get an unbalanced mic. i personally tried the azden sgm-x and really like it. bhphotovideo has it.
Another option is to get a xlr adapter (i think they go around 150$) and then you have a wide choice of cheap but good mic: azden sgm-1x (or 2x), AT897, and up, and up.. :)

good luck!
Andrea
