If you are indoors or even outdoors you can try the Viewsonic N1630w TV.
You can get from B&H for less than 200us$.
It is a 16" HD-TV with HDMI/Component and VGA.
The max reso is 1080i/720p and it is NTSC and PAL.
Check-it out!

I was searching for this alternative myself. I checked it out and it looks good. They list the following inputs:

HDMI x 1
PC x 1
Component x 1
Composite x 1
S-Video

For serious work I suppose the color factors might be an issue.

I have a hard time judging what the actual image is going to look like when I use the DVX LCD.

If you are used to this kind of monitors you can tell from the picture if it is OK or not.
Just compare it to your viewfinder to get an indication and if needed adjust the colors.
And there is always some adjustment possible in post or not??

Right, looks Ok. I have a Pajero(montero) with one build-in and another one in my gafferbag. Be sure the cooling fan is working when in use.

How does it handle motion? (any visible tearing? most seen in pans up/down left/right)

Does it have an external AC power supply or do you plug the AC into the monitor itself. Just thinking if the AC adatptor is external then you could just feed it the DC power it desires. Uses 48W though.

The Viewsonic Kenny G is talking about is just a normal flat screen TV. 120 Volts using 48 watts of power consumption.

Howdy...

I have that monitor, and it works well for framing and focus. The biggest problem is the viewing angle, which is extremely narrow. Looking directly at it, it looks well saturated and sharp, but even a small amount off axis and the image washes out and blurs.

Still, I use it a lot, and it's great for framing and focusing. Also great because it's very small and portable...

Motion is acceptable. The response time is about 8ms I think.
You will see some mosquitos when you are panning, but it is just for framing, focussing and if you are used to it also for color and ligthing indication.
If you want to watch a movie just go for your plasma.
It has no power adapter; internal powersupply.

Normally I am using it on a tripod with a black shading box around it, so viewing angle is no problem whatsoever.

Don't forget, this also a pc monitor/hdtv/HD video display and also PAL or NTSC.
For me - I am doing NTSC and PAL jobs - it is very convenient.
