So my firewire port shorted and now I cant use it. But recently, i got a macbook pro, and i want to hook up my dvx to the macbook to run flip flop to view the footage check focus, etc.

so is there an alternate way i can hook up my dvx? i was thinking like plugging it into my capture camera via rgb then that to firewire, but my capture camera doesnt have video in, just out. so maybe like a vcr would help or something? i dont really know

You can use pretty much any mini dv camcorder to capture from. A lot of people (including myself) use one to save wear and tear on the heads.

no, rokmartian, i use a camera to capture my stuff already, but i want to try some direct to disc recording with the dvx, also i want to monitor it with flip flop or scopebox ya know?

The only way you'll get a digital signal out is through firewire. I wouldn't recommend trying to monitor the input -- especially with something like Scopebox -- going out analog, then in through an analog/digital converter. No telling what's happening between your camera and the computer, and what you see on your computer screen may not be accurate.
