Alright, get in shape ......

Its not fair, because even after 1000 crunches ever 2 days, though I have a six-pack, there is a layer of fat that I seem to keep because I spend time on this forum.

Crunches, sit-ups, push-ups, lifting weights and stuff like that doesn' take away any fat, remember that boys.

Just remember that if you want to burn the fat away, don't push yourself too hard. Keep the pulse below 110-120 (for most people), and keep going for at least 45 minutes, preferably more, but keep in mind that running on ashpalt and other hard surfaces puts a lot of wear and tear on your legs.

I have a weight routine and I swim regularly. This is a recent thing for me (since last "get off your butt" thread if you must know). The thing is it only took a week for me to feel so much better working out that now I'm upset if I can't make it to the gym, not the other way around it was for the past twenty *cough cough* years of my life.

Yeah, and I know about wear and tear on your legs!!!
I used to play basketball until I literally could not walk down the stairs the next day. Then I would limp my ass over to the park and start playing again letting the adrenalin take over the pain. Then on the weekends I would go mountain bike training at 5am and ride until about 6pm and then go to the park and play bball some more. I used to have blisters so deep on my feet that it would bleed and would take months to heal.

Now I have 2 fake a$$ metal hips and have to excersize everyday just to walk.
The funny thing is that I can't wait to try to play again...maybe.

but I do plan on getting a personal trainer and try to keep in shape as much as possible since I can walk without pain all the time.

Whats absolutely ridiculous...and I am sure many of you can agree....I have ALWAYS felt better after a trip to the gym. Ive even gone to the gym hungover before and I ALWAYS feel a 1000 times better.

Yet, every now and again, it gets away from me and I find I have to re-convince myself to "get back into it". Its ridiculous. Its so obvious that working out and exercising kicks ass...but there are times when it takes some effort getting motivated...

True, alone they don't, but in combo with cardio and a balanced diet they make a big difference if done right. Muscle breakdown and repair is a great way to help speed up metabolism.

You guys/girls should seriously check out crossfit if you haven't yet. I've keep a pretty steady exercise regiment since '95. I have changed it up of course and tried various types of routines along the way, but crossfit has been by far the most productive, fun, and challenging set of routines that I have come across. I don't know that I would recommend it to anybody with a questionable back or knee(s) though.

So true. It's all about standing up and going. Once I make the decision to get up and do it.... I already start to feel better.

Funny I have been on here for 30 minutes checking my email and DXVuser... the whole time I'm talking to myself in my head, "you had better go work out before the kids get home... no, you have too much to do you can start fresh on Monday.... your a lazy piece of sheet... but I have to get this done.... it only takes 40 minutes and you will come back with more energy to get it done.... but this part is important to finish before I forget what I was doing... you forget because you don't sleep enough... just stand up and go you dumbarse..... okay, okay let's go"

HEY JOHN HUDSON...

I'm calling you out for crossfit challenge. $5 says that I can do the daily routines for more consecutive days than you. We would do them as prescribed at the site and on the days prescribed. "Day off" would of course be a rest day. Diet we will have to deal with on our own.

We would start a thread and post our time, weights, etc every day after each work out (as they do at crossfit) First one to miss a day for any reason is out. This of course is excluding death, injury, or illness (common cold doesn't count).

Tomorrow (Sunday) is a "Day off" so it would start with Monday's routine.

Are you up to it!? All in good fun of course.

I am

But you have to give me time to get to a gym (I just moved here and have yet sign up a new membership)

There is a place down the street I have been eyeballing. Give me time to get signed up with them and then we're on !

I'll have to check out crossfit ... sounds like an excellent resource. I HATE mornings, and so can't ever really get to the gym before I have to hit the office, and I have no motivation in the evenings because I either need to be editing or want to spend time with the family.

For a while I was doing 200 push ups every other day (4 sets of 50), which seemed good, but the reality is that the body can adapt VERY quickly to what you're doing, and need to change it up every couple of weeks or more to keep things fresh & building. So I've got to do something different and crossfit sounds like it'll have some good ideas.

I generally just try and stay busy and mix it up

I can have a month that varies from: swimming, weights, tennis, basketball, crossfit (See site for example) and lately have added biking 4 miles to the mix . I'm going to start surfing again as well.

Staying active is key; nutrition is a huge component. I like food and drink too much to be perfect everday but can keep it togther for about 4 days at a time (chickens, fish, salads, water etc)

Food's my problem. I live in the Columbia Gorge, which has some of the best wind surfing in the world ... just wish I had balance like you, John. I can barely even stand up on my kids' skate board!

Can others join in? I need to get back to working out and need accountability. I've got a membership at a local fitness center but it is populated by our towns resident blue hair society. The only other place is where the steroid injecting muscle head taking themselves way too seriously, beefcakes work out. Since I fall some where in the middle, I could use like minded guys to keep me motovated.
