Alpine Green AKA Crazy Color Correction

Hey guys, more of my exploits....

I went crazy on the color correction for this one. My neighborhood is looking pretty dry and dead, so I put After Effects color correction to the test and created what I like to call an "Alpine Green" look, vivid blue sky and rich deep greens. For those who wonder... I used LOTS of tricks to do this, but nothing you wouldn't do in a Lustre suite.

Medium contrast, sleight pull back on the green:

High Contrast:

No Contrast added:

Note: My compression codec messes with contrast somewhat, so I apply a sleight filter to fight it off... Also, if your monitor is not set for proper viewing of video, contrast may appear heavier than it really is... this includes monitors set up for photos.

Enjoy!

Wow what a difference. At first I liked the raw clip but after seeing the CC of it, it seamed more real. like if I was standing there looking out my window.

stay tuned for a third.... this one is the most down to earth real looking one with good, but not over the top contrast.

I liked the images you're getting out of the andromeda and what you're able to do them!

I noticed a little warping ;)

OH, yeah, thats a color correction mask for some secondary stuff.... guess I need to refine it a little bit better! I'm really impressed with how well the footage took that drastic a change.

Yea brilliant stuff, by the andromeda and you.

On another note, I am fine with the 'flatness' of the raw clip but the softness of the image bothers me. Don't get me wrong, the softness does make it look filmic but is there critical focus issue to worry about? Do you think an HD monitor is necessary?

I think the focus issue is more with the lens and aperture. The HD is real HD spatially because the camera does natively pixel shift (or at least the chips are set up that way). So I think it has more to do with the lens and lack of focus puller. I have shot some very sharp green screen images.

That's good to know. Focus is a real issue for me because sometimes it's hard to judge from the flip out lcd on any camera and it can get pretty stressful when you dont have an external monitor.

Gotta tell you, the Andromeda was on a low for awhile until you started posting these clips recently. Hopefully, your work reignites some enthusiasm from others. Now where's that Hydra?

:D

Hey guys,

I was just working on some new stuff and I noticed something I hadn't picked up on, sharpness when rendering out of After Effects. I'm working on some new stuff that is really quite sharp, however, the Sorenson 3 code makes the focus very soft. I've know about the flat contrast and de-saturation that normally occurs, so I've always filtered the renderings to compensate for it. I'm now messing with the sharpening filter....

For all you resolution sharpness people out there.... this might answer some of your questions!
