alpha support in latest codecs

I was freelancing at a place yesterday. When I rendered some animations in AE, I saw there was no alpha support in the latest avid 1:1x codec. They did not have the meridien codecs loaded so I just used the animation codec. I saw no fast import even with files with no alpha channels.
I'm still using the meridien 1:1 codec at my place so this was new to me. Is there a latest one that does support alphas and can someone shed some light on why they'd have one that does not support alphas?

I just used the animation codec. I saw no fast import...
I wouldn't expect fast import from the animation codec. When rendering out of AE with the Meridien codec I would expect fast import. To render out with an alpha use the 1:1 8bit codec instead, as you found out the 10 bit codec doesn't support alpha channels. In a nutshell if all your AE render settings match your Avid project settings you should have fast import.

I think the most recent Avid Quicktime codecs are 1.10. You can download them from Avid's site. Hurry up though some guy on this forum said they were going out of business any day now.

Fast import is gone either way... but both are pretty quick now.
I aint downloadin' anything on their box.

I take it you don't see them on a downward spiral. So you gonna buy some stock in em?
lol
good luck with that.

Good luck with FCP. How's your new Mac? And now that you've had a chance to test out DS 10, is it almost as good as cutting on FCP?

I havnt been on 10 yet. v8 is the latest version of DS I have been on but as mentioned, I'm a fan. I have not bought a mac yet. Gonna wait till a run the wheels off my current Avid then replace it with FCP. Like all of us, there are things I love and hate about all thse apps. My favorite NLE in the world has been dead for more than a decade... Adcom's Night Suite. lol
may it rest in peaces.
Thing was cool though. Recordable macros FTW. Wasn't thr best box to put a client like Dick Clark Jr. in front of though. You havn't fully lived till ya hear the tech support guy on the phone go "man, I'd hate to be in your shoes right now."
