Hello,

"Alone" is a short suspense/horror film shot in Superior, Colorado over a single night in June 2008. It's our first short film project. We are planning to release 5 more completed short films online in the coming months. So look out for those.

This was shot really well. It looked and sounded great! Nice work.
That flickering drove me crazy though. Simulating the light from the TV. That drove me nuts after a while.

Acting was good and the story was interesting as well. I just felt that it dragged too much. A little too long.

Very nice work though.

Thank you all for your comments! We shot it on the EX1 with Letus Extreme. A few fluorescent softboxes and some cheap halogen lights. The dolly track is home made. So basically bare bones ultra low budget setup. The most difficult part for me was composing the original soundtrack. I was still learning the basics at the time.

Michael, I agree with the pace. That's something we have been getting better at. Now-a-days, I look at an edit and try to find ways to cut the fat. But leave enough room for buildup. It's tough to get the balance right.

Damon, I thought it was pretty good, just needs some tweaking. You have a knack for creating the right mood so definitely keep at it!
Can't wait to see what you do next.

I liked this. I think you maybe over did the DOF shots and extreme closeups, but nothing to offensive.

The pacing overall was good, i think some of the photos that she goes through should have been from a bit farther away since it makes it seem like it would be impossible not to notice photog.

Other than that, nice job creating some tension, i think a few of hte lines could have been elimiated since you were basically showing it on screen already.

Being a soundguy, I'm going to give some sound remarks or suggestions or compliments :-p

- I was thinking first of giving the cat some sound also...But after watching a few minutes....it looks more like our belgian politicans....asleep....

- the sound of the tv goes of a little to early (few miliseconds, about 30)

- it's a strange microwave.... no numbers ? Ah, no...I saw them in a next shot

- A lighting "isue" and advice: for having that typical "I watch tv effect", turning light on and off is ok, but do it more...not in the same rythm, and using a blue-filter can help also.

- I liked to hear the cracking sound of eating popcorn. I think it could give more "suspense" in a way. The other sounds are good. (the metal creaking sounds etc)

- if you make the tv sound more typicaly tv, there's more difference between the tv sound and the sound of a guy walking on the 2nd floor. I know tv these days don't sound like the old tv's. But people
like to hear it as it was an "old" tv because otherwise they don't believe it's a tv.... It's like a door needs to creack, direction lights need to do that typical "teck teck teck teck" sound..
Also some sounds you can make louder to give more attention.

- in a way it's also strange for me... If I hear the sound of someone walking upstairs.... But I'm not a girl watching a movie :-p

- the sound of the telephone, make it much louder so it realy scares.

- I hate the ringtone...but that's just me :-p it's a good one though for this film
