Almost divorced my Af100 but we're good now.

Erm... will i get beaten with a flame thrower if I confess my ignorance of aforementioned 'focus-in-red'?

LMAO

I was wondering what those funny white graph thingies were when I pushed the wfm button.... hahaha but no, that was off cos I couldn't see what was going on with all the mountains and valleys obscuring my view.

Before I duck the eggs and tomatoes, allow me a short clarification:

Until i bought the Af100, I had never owned or operated anything bigger than my wife's little point n shoot handycam.
I bought the Af because I grew tired of being the most clueless guy on set (technically). We hire those other big ol' things that need expensive trucks with jennies n stuff and I just tell Bill Nye the science guy what I want to see on my (heavily scratched) monitor. Bill tells his Gaffers n Grips what to do and we all make money (erm.. sometimes).

But now the Af100 has turned me into a shooting Nut! I shoot anything that moves lately, including local bands, kids, my Bulldog and our pot bellied pig.

Anyhoo... any technical advice is really appreciated. The more I get to know this cam, the more I love making movies :)

So...

Anyone got the energy to explain to me (in low IQ Director terms) how that focus assist slash in-red whatsisname thingie works?

I'll post the music vid as soon as I can for you guys to roast n toast :)

The focus assist slash in-red whatsisname thingie is there to make your life easier

Back in the day with old standard definition TV you could get away with murder focusing wise, but now with this new fangled HD high definition stuff, focusing is more difficult to get right. The small screen on the camera superb as it is ...is not up to the job so this red thingie was introduced.
The cameras brain looks at your picture and can tell what is sharp and what is blurred, it looks at edges in the image and how sharp they are it then paints sharp edges red, the sharper the edge the more red it gets... so you pick what you want to be in focus and tune for maximum red around and on it.
Its called peaking and can be switched on by pushing the User 1 button a red border is drawn around the screen to let you now its on.

Anyone know what it was?
Too cold?
Am I an incompetent husband?
Any ideas?
Intervention would be appreciated, I love her very much and would hate to have to trade her in for Alexa or some Red Head. (Two prostitutes I hire from time to time).
You didn't... prematurely pull your card out, did you?
Is your lens as fast as you?
Are you keeping her happy with a nice... long... lens???

I read somewhere that this can happen as the LCD warms up, on my 102 a couple days out of the box, a green wave line indoors under fluorescent light but eventually disappeared ..

Dude, you rock. Seriously.

It's not the size of the lens that counts my friend, a true master can get the job done with a M4/3 20mm.

That's what the Akiko can do to you. First I thought I'd never ever shoot "video"... yikes! ..... then the mighty picture fridge Arri D20 came along and the REd and the Alexa.... and now my DoP get's nervous when I sit on set and talk tender gibberish with my Akiko while he dances with Alexa.

Consequently in this process I have embarrassed myself in this forum often enough with "noob" questions, so no way you could out-noob me.... ;-) .... but, errrm, I do shoot nice enough pictures...

A director I work with often bought an early Red One, & hates it, so never uses it. There were lots of quirks that sprung up at the worst time, so for a long time it's sat idle.

The same director has been thrilled by the AF100, as it starts up fast, & just works. He's ready to sell the Red, & his CFO has asked if I know where best to get rid of it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bern

I have had the same problem as Downunderwild with the lcd under indoor lighting exhibiting green lines at my last job. I was freaking out but the lines weren't on the footage.

Man! Editing this Ice Rink footage is friggin awesome!

Can't wait to show you lot the vid.
My Panny sings like an Angel when you give her enough light!

*Sigh*

I can't wait to see what else the future brings us happy film makers!

Wilbur- have you dropped to one knee and proposed to be faithful to her?
...promised not to cast a lustful glance at others such as Alexa?

I must admit, the fact that Alexa has such sexy lenses and really likes to play in the dark makes it a bit hard for me not to glance.
Luckily Panny says she's keen for a three way shoot just as long as that red head isn't there.

Oh Wow! Tested the focus-in-red thingie today.

I feel like a total idiot but at least I am no longer an ignorant idiot.

Marvelous feature!

Makes sense though, after 13 years of marriage I still find out amazing new things about my wife every now and then... Why should Panny be any different?
