Hello everyone i just thought i'd introduce myself here to the rest of the community.

Perhaps a little introduction would be in place however this post seems a little vain to begin with

So with out further a due I Propose a meaningful question that we all love to talk about

how'd you get started or what sparked your initial interst in film.

WELCOME!

for me, i remember the day i realized i wanted to make movies. I was 9 or 10, and was playing with action figures and spaceships and such, and to me, i began to think, im making stories, not only that, but i would always move myself around whatever battle was going on or whatever, really picking me angles to view the action. I thought, golly cheeze and crackers, I think i wanna direct films!

Pretty much how it happened. Got out the '85 vhs camcorder, took it out side, and one man showed it, which sucked and was boring. I basically ignored movie making for abour 6 years, then started doing projects for my film classes in high school, and of coarse mine always bloew everyone elses out of the water (not because they were good, but i was the only one in the class that actually cared and spent any time on them).

So a couple years out of high school my family convinced me i should get this camera, which at 3400 bucks, i was pretty scared of never using, but 4 months later, i'm finished 3 projects, and am now in disscusions to do a commercial and a psa!

my life has actually changed in the passed for months, amazing...

Hey, CameraGuy,

My story is similar to Cheesesailor's, except instead of action figures I played with Legos. I used to make my own designs and think of stories to use them in. Coincidently, just when I was thinking of making movies with Legos, the Lego Moviemaker Kit came out. It was a kit that included a small camera and software, where you can make stop-motion animation movies. I had lots of fun creating short movies about a dinosaur rampaging a city, but I always thought it would be a lot eaiser to just tell your actors what to do instead of move them yourself one frame at a time. So now I'm doing some live-action stuff at home and am taking a video class at school. Now I only need a DVX....

I remember some really cute looking girl said she like fimmakers, every since then I became a filmmaker. The things you do for a girl. :)

Ok, My mother and father were ape (monkeys without tails) researchers and documentarians. At the age of 3, after a horrible chimpanzee "incident", I was left an orphan in the jungle. After a short time, alone and hungry, I was adopted by a family of gibbons.

For two decades I integrated myself into the gibbon clan. Slowly climbing the monkey corporate ladder and eventually becoming the "alphamale". On that night we celebrated. It was a BIG party full of rope swinging, howling, and feces throwing. Everyone was there!  Afterwards my adopted mother, Nuk Nuk, took me aside. She handed me something wrapped in old banana leaves. It was a movie camera. She explained, in howls and chest poundings, that it belonged to my "real" parents who were killed by the "evil" chimpanzee clan in the next forest. Anger and rage filled my soul. I raised the camera into the moonlight, threw some feces, and I VOWED, from that day forward, I was going to be the best filmmaker EVER, ...and also kill every chimpanzee on the planet.

10 years later, I haven't really done too much about the filmmaker thing ...or killing all the apes. I'm just too lazy, ...and their so cute.

I dont know, I just know there were killer squirrels invovled. Murderous rodents on a rampage, and PK was raised by a group of kindly monkey-mammal creatures. Maybe I am the one trippin'. :)

Thartley, Yes it was killer squirrel's before. Only you would have remembered that. :D You no longer have the squirrel avatar so I changed the story to monkeys. But the rest is all true!

Ok, you all know me to well. Time to find a new forum  :D

I saw Star Wars as an eleven year old the first time, and it sparked my interest in filmmaking. I did a few Super8 productions in high school, and got serious again when the DVX100a 24P camera came out.

well, I am still basically at the starting point of my journey in the film/video world. I guess what got me going is just the challenge of portraying your view on a situation. How you see it in your head, angles, ete etc. For me, it's satisfying to be able to convey by image how I look at the world...

Hahaha my goodness i leave this post open for the nite and i see 2:00 in the morning humor got the best of ya talk of chimps and squirells and what have you

but yeah i can assure you i'll be here to stay.

Awesome stories though it's one thing we all have in common. From playing with action figues as kids to growen up and maken actual films in highschool while unconsiuosly blowing everyone out of the water.

It's great  i can tell this board will be a blast.

I was a painter for a lot of years, and I simply started to become bored. Tried out photography (which I still enjoy), but I was even more facinated with video. My girlfriend at the time (this was several years ago) was equally interested in video projects, so we bought video cameras and laptops and just started shooting everything we thought was interesting about the city, mostly how people behave in a city like New York or what they look for out of desire.

We would make experimental looking stuff to show at clubs in New York and just have fun with it. I didn't take it real seriously until last year when I decided that I'd like to make a few features. I saved up for a DVX100, which I got a couple of months ago, and now I'm working on a few indie projects.

Basically, I save up for the next piece of equipment so that I'll be capable of more and more ambitious projects, shoot what I can, and spend time on this site learning an amazing amount of info and techniques from everyone else.

Wow man thats cool you guys certainly have no boundries when it comes to what you want to see

thats the thing about film your living life and capturing it on screen to become this epic story for you to enjoy and as a kick back other people will come to enjoy it aswell

for me i've always been around film watchen the same movie over and over as a kid
to action figures then one day in science class for a project we needed a visual aid and my parents had just bought a video camera which was pretty much sitting idle

to me making this corny movie that people loved and watchen the class' reaction to complete strangers in school tellen me how good i did that feeling from then on sparked and have been hooked ever since as of now im worken for a producer while learninen the tricks of the trade and filming events here and here to pay the bills i just graduated highschool in Dec and have the rest of the world to venture. sooooo...............

Lets Make a movie 8)

PK YOU KILL ME! sometimes I see something and think, who the hell thinks of stuff like that? and now I know, its p.k...

as for making stuff... well, I became obsessed with movies after watching 12 monkeys when I was in middle school (sorry if the refrence to monkeys hits a nerve pk ;D) I remember thinking that theres something to this movie thing... after that t3rry gilliam had me hooked for a year or 2 with "brazil"... then every highschool kid has to go through the "fight club" phase (watched it opening day because I was a fincher fan because of "the game") so I had to start a club... I was going dressed up like tyler durden to shows and reenacting scenes infront of the theater... so I watched alot of movies... started doing stuff on vhs-c in highschool (incamera editing ;)) after that I was a freak... started on the classics... fellini, renoir, ozu, kurosawa, bergman...

Im a n00b at this movie making thing... I got a my dvx october 21 (I will never forget it) so Im doing the small time festival thing in my free time... (and now dvx contests ;D)
