All transitions replaced? FCP7 bug?

FCP 7.0.3, OS 10.7.3.

I just opened a project that I'd locked a couple of weeks ago to do final CC, export an OMF and reference video for ProTools, etc. All the transitions have been replaced with Fade In-Fade Out dissolves. Worse, FCP has added the same transition to the beginning and end of every clip, whether there was something there originally or not. So now I'm having to go back, delete all the transitions, and re-create all my cross-dissolves. Everything was normal the last time I saved and closed.

Anyone had this happen? Do we know the cause, or the solution? I'm almost afraid to open other projects now for fear that I'll find the same changes.

If they're all supposed to be the same transition, just mark an in & out then select the tranny you want from the Effects menu.

That's just it... they're not all the same. Some were originally cuts, and now they have Fade In-Fade Out dissolves. It was a 3:00 promo, so it wasn't a lot of labor to fix everything, but I'd love to know what happened and how to keep it from happening again.

Do we know the cause, or the solution?

Limitations of OMF Exporting in Final Cut Pro

Before you export an OMF file, consider the following limitations:
  • If you have cross fades in your edit, they are exported as linear cross fades, regardless of what kind of cross fades you use in your edited sequence. Your audio editor can reset these to the correct type within the audio software.
How well your cross fades import into another application depends on the tool your audio editor uses. Because some OMF importing tools do not handle cross fade objects correctly, you have the option to leave these out when exporting your sequence as an OMF file.
  • OMF export does not include disabled audio tracks (tracks with the Track Visibility control turned off). Any individually disabled audio clips are also ignored.
  • Speed and reverse-speed effects that have been applied to audio clips are permanently applied to the exported audio media files.
  • Nested sequences are mixed together and exported as a single audio media file.
  • Audio filter information cannot be exported in OMF files.
Make sure to test your audio workflow in advance. Not all applications can import audio level and pan information stored in an OMF file.

As Arniepix points out; goto your 'Autosave vault' in Scratch Disk folder and restore the latest saved version as your current project.

Yes, I'm aware of how to export an OMF, and what all is encased in the OMF. The issue I found was present upon launching of the FCP project, before I exported the OMF. The transitions replaced were video transitions in the FCP time line... audio was not affected at all.

Restoring the project to where it was before wasn't a big challenge as it was a 2:30 promo, and I was going through each clip anyway for CC. Again, my question is regarding how this happened and how to avoid it in the future.

One far-fetched theory:
1-Fade-In Fade-out is your 'default' transition. (In the browser under the Effects tab, check to see if Fade-In Fade-out is underscored which means it is default, or right click to a transition and you can select any transition as 'Set as default transition')

2-Then while everything was selected in your sequence, somehow you dragged it into your canvas and dropped it into 'Insert with transition' window. This exactly places your default transition into the beginning and end of each clip.
Perhaps you have shortcut in your keyboard layout that is triggered when everything on your sequence was selected.

An interesting theory, and sounds logical. However, the last time this project was open was when I finished the editing; I exported a proof, then saved and closed. At no time in that process did I have everything selected, and the exported video was fine.

Guess I'll chalk this one up to an anomaly and move on...

Believe me, I tried that first... nothing. The project had been saved and closed (when I'd finished the edit, and everything was normal), and other FCP projects opened after.
