very nice. seems like the portrait setting is the one with the most latitude but still a bit of punch. i've been using neutral with a custom curve but i might try portrait now, even though i guess it's just a bit of saturation and sharpness that separate them. i've always been allergic to settings that try to tell me what they're for before. sports anywone? beach? brr.

I've had mine stuck on vivid for a while, might be pushing contrast and saturation a bit but I've been shooting kids and I'm liking it especially with nikon primes.

Thanks for putting that up. Although many of the colors in the composition are blacks and grays; which make it hard to tell the difference.

But it is a helpful video.

Just a quick note on 'daybreak daily 3'. It's a wonderful little short. But I think you would do well with starting out with an establishing shot, instead of ending it that way. When you cut to the girl I'm thrown off a bit, and I think having an ES would help.

actually i just tried my custom curve with portrait and neutral and the result was exactly the same, so these setting are the same with just slightly different curves. the vivid and normal settings are more contrasty even with the same custom curve, vivid even more so of course, so i guess they use a different gamma. i've read that gamma is applied after the curve, the curve is applied to the linear data, or is it log? typically as flat a gamma as possible is better for grading, but since we're also battling the compression artifacts there's more research to be made...

thanks guys...someone else mentioned that lack of colors making it a bit difficult to see what exactly the curves did...

and haha...those daybreak dailies were supposed to be private...ooops. but thanks. those were the only scenes i edited together cause i eventually canned the whole project...thanks for your feedback though. if you want, i can send you the script maybe you'd want to film it.
