as i am looking for my dvx100a or b what i am finding is that in the same price range low hour xl2. in the dvx i am finding 900 to 1500 hour and from the xl2 40to 100 hour all other things equal am i better getting a lower hour xl2?

dvx!! however u can get dvx's with much less hrs than that. Look in the marketplace we have here.

i have looked and find one or two but still with high hours. i have been looking between here and ebay. and what i found was for between 800 and 1500$ i could get a dvx100 or a or a xl2. the xl2 just seem to have a lot less hours. i want the dvx but i don't want to have to repair or replace it in 6 months.

take your time and look for one.
I've seen many deals for DVX that were less then $1500 and had low hours here.
but when ever there is deal like that, the sales go right away.
so just don't miss it.

the DVX and XL2 are both great cameras, but ignoring hours and price:

-The XL2 will require an external, video reference monitor, since the supplied viewfinder sucks, and you can't even focus with it (unless using autofocus). So if you have a good one, then this isn't an issue.

-Both cameras can eat battery, but the DVX is a lot on battery life than the XL2. I have a DVX with the Series 7 battery kit from B&H, and that lasts me all day.

-The DVX actually has an LCD screen, the XL2, well, I don't know how to describe it.

-The XL2 has better image quality: its has native 16:9 sensors at 680 horizontal lines, but uses pixel shift to get something like 940x780 (in 16:9 only, 4:3 is 720x480). If you do a lot of stuff to your footage, this may help.

-The DVX is the symbol of versatility in a camera.

^^ These are only a few points, but can really help you in deciding the right camera for you. Your obviously on a forum for the DVX, so most people here will tell you a DVX until you go insane...but you'll get the same from any XL2 forum. I had the same problem...I went with the DVX and I have no regrets whatsoever.

BTW, take a look at this: http://dvxuser.com/articles/shoot3/

I saw a brand new one in the market place with zero hours on it not to long ago. Look around and buy the DVX, there is nothing wrong with an XL2 though, just whatever your preference is.
