Filmmaker needed to shoot, edit & produce short videos documenting a green, sustainable building project.

An "earthen igloo" is the term I've given to the rammed earth bag building method which is slowly gaining popularity in the U.S. I have taken on a personal project to build my own 500+ sq. ft. rammed earth bag building home, calling it an earthen igloo as it aptly describes the building process: instead of tamped snow forming the building blocks of an igloo, an earthen igloo uses feed sacks filled with dirt, then tamped and stacked in ever smaller rows just like blocks of an igloo. Barbed wire between rows provides tensile strength and stucco will cover the completed igloo form.

An earthen igloo is green, sustainable, affordable and one of the most innovative and unsung building methods being used today. These unique structures cannot be damaged by tornadoes, floods, fire, termites or hurricanes. The 20" thick walls keep the inside temperature cool in summer and warm in winter. Best of all, they are cheap to build and my goal is to build this one for $20K or less. I already have the earthen igloo construction underway: the site is excavated, the foundation completed, the walls are currently going up and water is already plumbed in.

My filming needs include:
• creating a 2-4 minute synopsis of the building project for use on KickStarter.com;
• creating a series of six or seven 2-4 minute segments on each aspect of the building process (from site selection & excavation, to wall building, plumbing, wiring & stucco finishing) for educational purposes to teach others how to create their own green, innovative, affordable housing;
• and a 5-7 minute "virtual Open House" for viewing by others interested in learning about this building process once the igloo is complete.

The ideal filmmaker will have an interest in sustainable green building projects, be professional, mature & have excellent follow through. (Seriously, I'm not joking on this last point: If you cannot keep deadlines or cancel/reschedule meetings last-minute, please save my time and yours by NOT applying. It's a pet peeve of mine and won't be tolerated.) Finished films do not have to be slick, commercially-produced pieces, but they do have to be tastefully and professionally shot and exhibit a more than beginner understanding of filmmaking. Senior-level film students or filmmakers who are beyond just being a hobbyist would be excellent candidates.

This would be an great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about this building method as s/he will have a behind-the-scenes look at each aspect of the construction process. The earthen igloo is being constructed on my farm located in Williamsport, Tenn., which is exactly an hour's drive from Nashville. While compensation is negotiable, my hope was to be able to provide compensation for the person(s) filming in the form of $50 gas cards for each site visit, an opportunity to stay one weekend of the person(s) choice in the earthen igloo once construction is complete, and of course full production credit on the films along with shout outs on the Earthen Igloo Facebook page & Twitter accounts. To my knowledge, this will be the first construction of its type in Tennessee.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in taking on, please email me at your earliest convenience to learn more.

"Compensation: $50 gas cards each site visit, plus a complimentary stay in the igloo"....

Let's see....

You get gas and a freebie.

Hardly the worst.

Doesn't even get the cake.

What kind of farm is it? A moisture farm?

"These unique structures cannot be damaged by tornadoes..."

I'm calling your bluff. Come build one out here and REALLY put it to the test.

I've seen worse. Sadly, this is typical that someone is expecting someone to be "professional" and do all that work for $50.

Found an interior shot:

I should note that photo I posted wasn't from the mug igloo from the CL post, just one I found on the web. Though I image at 500 square ft, it's probably similar.
