Christ. Scream makes NO sense. Neither does Alien (hadn't heard anything about a REMAKE of this)

I did hear about The Thing and Robocop.

I mean, yeah they should think of original ideas, but I think something like The Thing would be really cool with a clean mixture of practicle and CGI effects because in the original movie the effects actually take you OUT of the movie. I mean, the movie itself is AWESOME. A remake doesn't take away from the original. That's the case I'm making -- any remake or prequal/sequal doesn't damage the original movie. I still love the first two Tim Burton Batman movies. Batman Begins and Dark Knight did MUCH more to damage those movies than did Forever or Batman and Robin because the new series chose to IGNORE the Tim Burton films altogether. I think that was a mistake, but I love The Dark Knight, so who's to say?

Heck, I felt the same way when they came out with the animated series The Batman thus disregarding the Kevin Conroy Batman that had been running from 1992-2007 (that's 15 years of the same awesome Batman!!). The minute you turn your back on a franchise and start aknew only THEN do you damage the original. A remake of the same (or similar) script then does not damage the original, it simply pays homage to it and lets us see what the film would look like if made today with the involvement of different people.

How many movies have been made about D-day? How many about Gettysburg? The day we met the Aliens should be given the same allowances.

Bottom line, no one anywhere will EVER feel the original Psycho was in any way tainted by its remake. Ditto for The Shining.

Now, if you're talking about the philosophical arguments about regurgitating the same (exact) ideas over and over again, and argument could be made. But, honestly, it's like they say about what's under the sun, ya know?

Megan Fox plays "young Ripley", just graduated from astrogation college and on her first assignment.

NOOOOOO...not another one of those "prequel" movies. I had enough of these prequels, sequels, and fifthquels! Just kidding. Not much of an Alien fan anyway.

I was also an Aliens fan.
Alien was good. Aliens just rocked. Alien 3 lacked and was not in the same league imo. 4 was getting "let's get it over with".

AVP. WTH was that?

R.Scott and J.Cameron I'm sure will do the right thing given the chance.
Anyone else, well, they'll have to earn it. At this point in the franchise I can't see it.

Boxoffice hit maybe. Like Hulk's "HULK...SMASH" line. Ouch. Maybe we'll see McDonalds Alien cups and trinkets. Alien toys for christmas like Sigourney dolls vs Alien Dolls.
Hell, Alien Vs Barbie. The kids will love it. I would. Alien shaped breakfast cerial. Why not? Were here to make as much as we can right? Alien lunch boxes, cell phone covers

Unfortunatley money has quite an influence on most people. I wouldn't mind some of it. It's all good.

My thoughts exactly, except that I like Alien and Aliens equally. Alien 3 had some really great elements and the dingy environment was really well crafted, but it just felt a bit too much. Alien and Aliens still had enough relatable elements in terms of the characters, wardrobe, and overall environment to make the audience get into things. Plus, the first two had better scripts than Alien 3 did.

Maybe we'll see McDonalds Alien cups and trinkets.

Who would be shocked if after eating at McDonald's, a little alien burst through their chest? Don't even get me started on what McD's breakfast hot cakes do to me.

Hell, Alien Vs Barbie. The kids will love it. I would.

Actually, that gives me a good idea for an Aliens movie.

I talked to Kevin Williams personally about my interest in the SCREAM reboot. All he could tell me was that he IS working on the script and that the story isn't a reboot, but a whole new saga. So no Sydney Prescott or Gail Weathers, as far as I gathered. Then again, we didn't get into great depths about the story, so there may be cameos. Having been an UBER FAN of the original trilogy as a teenager, I'm looking forward to this.

I wonder if Cronenberg might get a second shot at directing Total Recall. He wasted a year of his life developing a script that De Laurentiis kept rejecting on the grounds that it was too dark / not commericial enough.

As an amusing aside: Cronenberg was also offered Top Gun as well as Beverly Hills Cop (then with Sly Stallone slated for the lead) during roughly the same period.

I've also heard that when Arnold came on board, the tone changed because well, it's Arnold. Same thing with Terminator. Lance Henrickson was supposed to be the terminator, which was originally envisioned as looking like any old average shmoe that can effortlessly blend in with the crowd.

I love Total Recall, but I wouldn't mind if they went back to Philip K. Dick's original short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, and did a completely different take on it than Verhoven's version. Same thing with PKD's Second Variety, which was done as Screamers with Peter Weller in the lead. The short story is so much better than the movie, although the movie wasn't necessarily bad.

Man, I'd love to see what Cronenberg would have done with the banana in the tailpipe scene.

I just read that Jon Spaihts is writing this - actually, that the project was greenlit at Scott Free due to his pitch - which at least gives me a little bit of faith in the property. He's a very talented writer, and he knows his SF. He writes real characters with emotion.
