AJA 4K2HD with Atomos Ninja Star on FS700?

Apologies if this has been asked. I have the O7Q and love it. I just had this thought and am curious if it would work for a smaller footprint to get better HD footage than the internal codec. FS700 SDI into the AJA 4K2HD HDMI out to the Atomos Ninja Star. It wouldn't be the cheapest solution, but is it something to consider? Once the a7s gets supported by the O7Q, I'm going to need to figure out how to continue getting great footage out of the FS700 when I use them in tandem as A and B cameras.

as far as I know the AJA 4K2HD HDMI just downsamples a UHD stream to HD. It does not convert the Sony RAW signal into a codec (DNG, ProRes) you could use. I doubt it will record the 4K output at all.

This.

It's similar to another post I saw where a guy was upset that the 7Q advertises recording UHD ProRes, but requires a $799 codec on the FS700. The major difference is that the FS700 is incapable of sending out a 4K *video* signal. It only sends out 4K as Sony's RAW signal.

That's what I figured. I only thought there might be a chance because I know people are using downconverters with the A7s to record great looking prores HQ onto external recorders.

That is correct. The suggested solution would not work.

There may be some interesting news tomorrow...
