OTHER: AJ-PX270- Shooting other than AVC-I-100.....but want 30PN???????

I recently upgraded the firmware on my new 270 cam..... I see that I can now shoot 1080 30PN, In AVC-I 100 which is great...... BUT - in 720 mode, AVC-Intra 50 the only option is 60p..... Did Panasonic do away with AVC-I50 30pn???? The same holds true for all the LongGop settings ---- all are 60p...which yields that "video" look...which i don't care for.

To get away from the video look, i started experimenting with a shutter speed of 1/30...... but not sure if this is the best idea? Is this normal?

Are there any suggestions or something i'm missing if you want to shoot in in AVC-I50, or LongGop..... but want to stay away from the 60p "video" look.

I am really confused as to Panasonic engineering choices for what options we have in terms of frame rates/codecs. I think we have slightly better options after the firmware update (including Intra 200), but there still seems to be more marketing choices at work than there are engineering choices. Feels like we are getting a neutered sub-set of options to differentiate between the lower cost 270 and the higher cost offerings.
 
Stay away from AVC-Intra 50 altogether as it isn't 1920 X 1080, it is 1440 X 1080. If you want to save space, record Long G in the myriad of wonderful new space saving ways Panasonic has blessed us with including 30Pn.
 
I used Intra50 on my 250 once and it really looked bad compared to Intra!00 so I never used it again. Your find that Long G 24/30Pn isn't compatible with FCPX is just another of several bumps in the road for this camera and I'll be happy when it is resolved since I use FCPX.

Can you confirm that Long G at 50mb and 25mb recorded at 60P are AOK in FCPX? I need it for a job next week.
 
Hi GK, as I mentioned in my other post, it appears that the LongG @ P formats are fine. Only the longG @ PN seem to have the problem. Intra PN is fine too. LongGPN shows serious interlacing issues in FCPX, and FCPX even defines the footage as interlaced.

Just to be on the safe side, record a few second of your chosen format (on a clean card), and import it into FCPX. Then select the clip and check the info panel. Make sure it says 1080P instead of 1080i.
 
Thanks Mabou and since you already seem to be in contact with Panasonic about the Long G Pn issue, please update the rest of us when it is resolved. I'd appreciate a PM if that isn't too much trouble!
 
Gk.... I have to ask... where do you see info about LongG 50 that states the frame size is 1440 x 1080? My impression is that is is typical 1920 x 1080 and I can't find any info to the contrary. Help?
 
AVC-Intra-50 is what GK is talking about. It is an older codec that was a smaller alternative to AVC-Intra 100. 50mbps with intra-frame is not very efficient for HD material.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe if I entice you with... lets say a crisp 10 dollar bill... you will write a book on the 270?
Loved your book and DVD on the HVX 200... SERIOUSLY wish there was funding for you to write a book on the 270.
 
I've edited some HDcam in the previous years and there are still some HDcam cameras working today. The HDcamSR is even better. That codec is 1440X1080. During playback it is re-sampled to 1920X1080. Sharp as a tack. Same with some digital files I've worked on. I'd be more concerned with 4:2:2 and bit rate, plus the type of codec.
