Hello All,
I'd like to introduce you to a project I've been working on for some time now. I'm based in Omaha, Nebraska, and since creating around forty short films in high school, I've been working as a DP for the past few years. Last year I began working on my first feature film, and decided on the acclaimed script 'AIR' by screenwriter Steve Fauquier. The project is funded by the University of Nebraska and local sponsors, and we are also running a campaign on IndieGogo to raise additional funds for the production.
One of the main ideas behind this project is that everybody involved, so far over thirty professionals and students, are working on a volunteer basis. Everybody has a backend percentage, so if the film makes money, everybody makes money. But by doing this on a volunteer basis, we've been able to stretch our budget much farther than would otherwise be possible. Our budget is around $10-$15,000, but with the cast and crew on a volunteer basis, and access to all the gear I've built up from my career as a DP, as well as the cheap/free access to locations and resources here in Nebraska, we're producing a feature that's probably at least a $100,000 project anywhere else. Obviously this method doesn't work in L.A. and other large markets, but this has been a great set-up for producing in Omaha, as this has effectively become a collective project that has the potential to benefit all involved.
So far we've been working on the pre-production, and the film is going into production this June. We're creating a lot of behind-the-scenes content on this, and my hope is that we can help out others in a similar situation to get started on making their films. One of the things we're doing is live behind-the-scenes broadcasts, every day during the production and once-a-week during the pre and post. Most of these will be exclusive to our IndieGogo contributors, but some of the broadcasts will be available to the public, so I will keep this thread updated when we are going to do a public one.
Throughout the process, I'll be updating this thread with pictures and commentary from the production. We'd greatly appreciate your feedback and support of the project. Thanks for taking a look!
