I just shot a music video. Last night I began capturing footage from my Mini DV camrecorder to my computer via firewire. But I got sleepy halfway in, so I unplugged the firewire from the camera and went to sleep. Woke up and the shits not connecting at all! It just wont.

I've restarted my computer like 30,000 times. Uninstalled and reinstalled all kinds of drivers. I've tried other cameras (I have two mini DV cams), I tried other firewire cords (I have two) NOTHING is working! I don't know if it's the camera, the cord or the computer. HELP ME!

have you tried hooking something else up to the firewire port? if that doesn't work, you know it's an issue with the computer. if all else fails, you can always buy another port for your computer.

People always suggest going out and buying things like I have money laying around. Buying something is ALWAYS my LAST option. What else is there to hook up to a firewire port?

external hard drives, digital cameras, webcams... if you don't have anything like that, try a friend's computer.

ok, step 1

open up device manager:

control panel >> system >> hardware tab >> device manager

Then check you have no hardware conflict (big yellow question marks)

if so, then right click on the problem device and "uninstall driver",

next close this and then re-connect your firewire and switch on the camera, and wait,

now it should auto detect the device and automatically reinstall a "fresh" driver, this SHOULD remove any driver related issue.

If this is not the case, you may have some how fried your firewire port, in which case you will sadly need to install a new firewire port @ around $20.

Anhar,

Anhar,

There was a big yellow question mark next to 'Communications Port (COM1)', so I uninstalled. I'm going to restart my comp and get back to you with updates

com1? thats strange,

I would have expected to see something like "IEEE1394 Host Bus controller" with a yellow "?".

The guy could be a little more appreciative.

It's Whitewood, what do you expect? He thinks the rest of us exist to serve him.

A new firewire port is $15 at the local electronic store. If you can afford tape then you can afford a new interface.

Personally, I've been less-than-appreciative of his attitude in the past.

I've heard of firewire ports burning out. But it has never happened to me. I think repairs could be costly, especially if it was part of the camera.

That sucks for you. Whatever, I comment in threads from time to time critiquing users videos and answering questions just as you guys do. And if I didn't think that you guys helped me on this site, I wouldn't come back as often as I do.

As for my firewire port being burned out, negative. I just plugged up a Maxtor hard drive to it via firewire and it connected with NO problem. So Now I know it's either the cords or the cams.

As for Anhar Miah, Restarted my comp, no luck. My external, hooked up to the same FireWire port as my camera, works, but not the camera. I went back into the device Manager, no yellow question marks though.

Whitewood, it just has to be said: Learn some humility! Almost every single thread started by you are demanding in tone, and your replies are almost always unappreciative, sometimes childishly snappish at the people who are trying to help you. They don't have to help you, but they do, and you need to treat them with more respect.

ok, its not the PC then,

like you said maybe cables or Camera, so:

step 2 check cables:

use the suspect cable with a another hadware (eg your Maxtor Hard drive), if that drive does not work, then you can conclude that the cable does not work.

Check the camera:

plug your camera using a cable (that is known to work) on another PC.

If it turns out your camera is not working, check your camera settings, maybe the port out is turned off.

PS:

please use normal fonts, the bold type can be rather distracting when reading it, it feels like you are shouting! :D

And I would also hope that you listen and respect everyones views, (not suggesting you are not, I have no experience with you) just be aware of others perspective, lets Keep DVXuser a friendly and warm place.
Peace.

Your demo reel is sweet, man. Especially the crane shots in the first half of it
