Hey Guys,

I posted a couple days ago about these digital lines that were going across my screen, so i thought it was gummy head on my camera. I wasn't sure if gummy heads would mess up the actual TAPE i was recording or not, so i went anyways without cleaning them and recorded some very important stuff.

I went to play the tape on my buddies little minidv camera which he doesn't barley use, and this is what came up....(thinking the playback of the tape would be the only issue for log & capture)

Still have this problem, so is it my Camera because the heads are SO gummy that EVERYTHING is like this, or is it a completley different problem?? Please help im sorta-kinda-freaking out, haha thanks guys!

AHH, as i was playing it back, all of a sudden on my buddies camera it said,

HEAD CLEANING REQUIRED

USE HEAD CLEANING CASSETTE

ok, well im just gunna go for it and try and clean my heads on the DVX, wish me luck

I think you answered your own question. If it's recorded on the tape then it must be the heads on your camera. I realize that you have important footage on that tape so you may want to try another camcorder, maybe......just maybe.......your buddies camcorder has a problem.

Have you tried a cleaning tape? I know that won't help what's already done ,and I really feel for you as I know reshoots are a *****......live long enough and you'll get used to them.

well i just went out and got one of these mini-dv head cleaners from radio shack, hopefully this will be a good quick fix, let me know if this is a bad idea anyone

the cleaner worked on my buddies little mini dv, mine is probably just sooo gummy, im just gunna bring it to a panasonic place to get it cleaned profesionally, thanks for all your help guys

That's what we call a "venetian blind" dropout, and it's caused by something stuck to the head, a thorough head cleaning is in order.

It's possible it's happening only on playback, in which case your original footage may be fine. Or, it may have happened when the footage was recorded, in which case that footage is just plain lost.

Good luck, hope you can recover it!
