Adjusting the mic via the lcd display while shooing in the field sucks so I'm looking at getting the XLR adaptor for the HMC40 BUT read some post here about it being noisy compared to the beach Tek and Juicedlink. Your comments ??

(of course a Sound Devices 302 would be nice but $$$ and I'd like to have something mounted on the camera at all times and the Panasonic adaptor fits better than the other two)

I use an AT875 in conjunction with the AG-MYA30G regularly and get decent sound with no hiss. I've also used wired lavs with the adapter with good results.

Great thanks, I have an AT4073A from the days when I had lolly to buy decent gear so I should be set.

Thanks ShugPro, I took a look at that thread and your comment about assigning the input to both channels at different levels is spot on. I've been burned by audio levels lately and messing about with the touch screen while the talent is waiting adds to the stress.

I spent a good hour figuring out how one would manually change the levels as all official photos don't show any knobs but I stumbled on a post here noting that they were on the side.

I recently purchased a HMC40 and think it is a terrific cam for the money. Having said that, doing any serious audio without the Panny module or something similar would be silly. I didn't realize it until it arrived; the Panny module has a couple of 10db pads available as well mic - line and phantom.
