HPX250: AG-HPX 250 On/Off Switch replacement question

When I up-loaded software version 17.45-00-0.00 for my AG-HPX 250 a Panasonic representative that walked me through it suggested that I assign Thumbnail operation to User 1. When I did that, the on off switch no longer will activate Thumbnail operation. I have since talked to the same Panasonic representative and he suggested that I may have a faulty On/Off switch and that in spite of assigning Thumbnails to User 1, the On/Off switch should still be able to activate Thumbnails.

I'm sure some of you may have has similar questions about the "Original On/OFF Switch" that came with your AG-HPX 250's If you have some thoughts on this and would care to share them with me, it will be appreciated.........

When I installed the newer firmware and assigned Thumbnail to User 1, the On/Off switch which previously was able to toggle to Thumbnail ceased to be able to toggle to Thumbnail. It is a one or the other thing as far as I know and that is one of the points of doing it, I think - so you can't inadvertently toggle to Thumbnail with the power switch when in standby. Also, I had had some issues when running on AC where the camera would shut down on its own (maybe when I touched the power switch lightly - never figured it out) and that issue has never happened again since moving the Thumbnail to user one.

Your experience mirrors mine when assigning Thumbnails to User 1, Are you concerned that the On/Off switch needs to be replaced on your AG-HPX 250 camera, or are you comfortable that it wont cause a future problem. Apparently a better switch has been developed as a replacement........it seems the original switch has caused some problems. Have you heard anything about that?

It's not a problem with the switch. Your experience is the exact same as mine. The updated firmware simply prevents use of the on/off switch to view the thumbnails when you've assigned a USER button to do that function. That may not have been what Panasonic intended, but that's apparently the result.

Here's another issue: After installing the firmware update and assigning a USER button to view thumbnails, I found that holding the on/off switch down to get into the computer connect mode was no longer working for me. I grew tired of the hassle, and went into the menus (3. SWITCH MODE) to change use of the USER button from "view thumbnails" back to something else. Now, I'm back to my old setup, and connecting to my computer is working again. I was just glad to see that I didn't have to re-install the previous firmware version to get there.

Hope this helps.
