I have been going insane for the past few weeks trying to find parts for this camera.
Someone stole the camera bag from my child's stroller at the Miami seaquarium. Fortunately The video camera was in my hand at the time and they only got the accessories, and my wallet. Besides the fact that they got some quick cash and tried to open spending credits in my name, they also ended up with the power adaptor, ac cable, dc cable, and lens cap. I have been trying to replace these parts for about three weeks now and have been having the time of my life being swung around in circles by people and automated services. B&H Photo representatives kept telling me that the part number I needed for the battery charger is [FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]VW-AD20PPK. But Panasonic parts told me the Charger i need is [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]VW-AD20-K. They look like the same exact part to me, except there is a price difference of $120.00 for the first one listed and $72.00 for the one Panasonic recommended. Naturally i went with the company's suggestion. I won't know for about three weeks whether or not i got the right part, and I also have no idea if the DC cable will be the proper one that fits the HMC40. Neither chargers indicate that they were designed for my camera. They list other cameras that they are designed for but Panasonic told me that many of their parts are interchangeable and compatible. Let's hope this is true. I ordered the lens cap from the Panasonic company which is also back ordered for a few weeks. That part number, just in case you are wondering, is [/FONT][FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]VGQ0H03. In addition to these parts, I found part numbers for the AC cable and DC cable but this only seems important if someone is looking for just one cable, as opposed to the whole package (such as in the case of my stolen accessories). I'll list those part numbers here just in case anyone is looking for them.

[FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]The sad part is that, the person who stole my bag most likely just threw away these parts in a trash can at the seaquarium after obtaining my cash and identity. Anyway, feel free to post comments, give me feed back, or just call me an idiot for leaving my camera bag unattended while playing with my child in the park in a place where thieves make it a point to prowl. I hadn't even owned the camera for a week when this happened, and I'm fortunate that they didn't actually get the HMC40, which would have put me nearly 2 grand in the hole. I chalk it up to another lesson learned that didn't have to be learned the hard way.
