AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

I shoot stock video for a living for Getty and do a lot of yelp video shoots. I started with the old HMC150 which I still use and also dslr's. This is just about a dream camera for me and would cover so much of my work! If it is 4:2:2 color even at 8bit would be great and 10bit a bonus. 4k 60p is sweet and I see nothing on the market now that compares to this camera right now at this price point. I prefer using a video camera any day over a dslr!

Danilo, I agree, I do not care for the look of the GH4 too much.

JJneff, what is a yelp video? Is this for the local review site yelp? Testimonials?

YELP video is a 90sec. over view of a business that they post to their site. They sub contract me to shoot them.

The crimson red coloring and stylish carbon-black textured body represents philosophy and advanced features of the new AG-DVX200 which produce emotional and highly detailed 4K images.

ah yes, it reminds me of the ancient greek philosophers and their love of crimson and carbon fiber tunics.

It's important to take note that all specs are "Tentative", so they could change when final product is delivered, I just hope they maintain 120 fps, and change (pretty hard) 4.2.0 internal subsampling for 4k.

The difference between Canon and Panasonic it's 10.000 $, pretty annoying considering that old model C300 now cost as new Panny, but it's just 1080p.

The pricing will really determine the market acceptance imho. $4999 vs $3499 will have a huge impact. Say what you will about how much the lens should be worth, for people to go ga ga over this camera the lower the better. My guess is closer to $4,000. If it had the "AJ" distinction $5,000 - $5,500 would be fair.

They are testing the market but I wish they had gone a little further and made the PX-430, brother of the PX-270. Matching colors, menus etc... I am guessing the DVX200 is more to match the GH4 than the PX-270. But we will see.

It's funny how the DVX200 looks to possibly be a pretty nice camera the fits in it's niche, but lot of people already has a problem with it.

I agree.

The DVX 200 is not the answer to all of our life's problems for under $5,000. It is what it is. For me, it seems like it will be useful for corporate, events, interviews, small indie film work, broadcast TV and a lot of things that I do. If I'm shooting a $100,000+ film would I use this camera? no .. but Red Scarlet packages are hitting the ground used for $7000-$10,000 ready to shoot, check reduser. Get a black magic 4K Ursa Mini if you need RAW 4K. Trick out a GH4 with accessories if you need 4K and interchangeable lenses. Get an FS700 with an Oddesey and shoot 4k Raw. There are options out there.

The continuous bashing of this camera is just mind blowing. Your movie isn't going to look like "Gone Girl" or "Gladiator" if you are using a DVX 200 camera. But there's a lot more to getting that "look" then the camera alone.

"The AG-HVX200 will be available in Fall 2005 at a suggested list price of $5,995."

Woah look at that list price from the press release of the HVX-200 back in 2005!

"The HMC150 will be available this fall at a suggested list price under $4,500"

Woah another price shocker there from 2008!

How quickly people forget the value of new cameras that bring a new level of quality to the world. The price of the DVX200 is exactly on par with the price cameras have always been in this league of cameras. We need to stop trying to compare the price of a professional video camera with the price of DSLR cameras. I love DSLR cameras but they do have their limitations. Honestly if you are serious about video then $5,000.00 is no where near a hefty investment. Yes I would consider the DVX200 a massive earth shattering improvement over the two cameras mentioned above. While they were both HD cameras, using the same 3 chip design I believe, the had low resolution sensors 1/3" that used pixel shift and were never known as the sharpest tools in the shed. The DVX200 not only has full resolution HD but full resolution 4k and a 4/3" sensor. I would consider that one heck of a massive upgrade over previous $5,000.00 Panasonic flagship prosumer cameras.

Wasn't the orignal DVX100 about $3400 when it came out? I can't seem to remember at the moment. I do remember the Canon XL2 being a whopping ~$6000 (which I thought was rediculous).

2008? Has it really been out that long? I bought one of the first HMC150's for $3,600, and I'm still making money with it. Not a ton of money, but it still makes me money... most of my work is now on my AF100. If I'm making money on the DVX200 almost seven years later, then it will be money well spent. Bonus points that it will also replace my almost five year old AF100 in the process.

I mean, I would much prefer some sort of 10bit 4:2:2, but if it comes in at around $4,200 retail, I'll be more than happy. That I'll never have to swap lenses in the middle of run and gun shoot anymore is icing on the cake.

It's is definitely a nice run and gun camera, my problem with it though is the f/2.0 to f/4.5 lens, I wish they kept it a fixed f/2.0 or maybe f/2.0 to f2.8. Internal 4:2:2 though is critical to keep it on my list.
