ag-dvx100b not capturing anywhere with firewire

We have tried capturing on 3 different computers.
The camera has never been attached to a computer and is fairly new.

It has been hooked up to one MAC and 2 PC's. We can not figure out why the camcorder is not being recognized at all. We plug in the firewire cord and nothing happens. Cannot capture in any software. Premiere Pro..Final Cut..etc.
I've tried searching the www for answers and have come up with nothing. Is it a software issue?, a computer issue?...I just don't know. I've tried adding plug-ins to the software but that didn't work. Any suggestions? we are very sad here..:violin:trying to finish a full-length movie

I just read somewhere else that you can blow a firewire port?? Never heard of this. Never done that either. Are the dvx100b's firewire ports easily blown or something. God ..I hope this didn't happen. Do you know how to find out if it is blown...??? is there a way.. We have no warranty.

Every camera's firewire ports are easily blown. It has nothing to do with whether it's a DVX; it's more to do with 6-pin firewire ports. If you've plugged into a 6-pin firewire port, you've run the risk of blowing out your camera's firewire port.

The easiest way to test is to get a 4-4 firewire cable and plug two cameras into each other. Put one in camera mode and the other in VCR mode. If they connect together, your port is fine. If they don't link together, try another cable (just in case it's a bad cable); if they still don't link together then yeah, your port is probably blown up.
