AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

I was faced with this question about 4 weeks ago.

Buy the DVX100p or Hold out for the A.

I chose the first one. I am very happy. :)

About a year and half to 2 years from now there will be another bitchen camera released and we'll all be having the same ole conversation again.

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

I figure if I've waited this long... ;D

Naturally there will always be better and faster. I am the first one to acknowledge that (being in I.T. sure helps me understand that concept a bit too well). But it's no longer a question of if, but when, and January is really close. ;) And since I'm investing quite a bit of money on it (as well as other accessories), might as well get my money's worth.

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

i own the dvx100 for half a year already... i wait for the DVX200 :)

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

I can't wait any longer...I'm making the plunge this week. I'll buy the DVX 100B in 2 years with HD.

LOL!  :D

OK, so the poll is not that old, but it's funny how divided the score is right now between "Being the first to own one!" and "Doing nothing, I am happy with my AG-DVX100.".  4 vs 4.

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

mm.. can i change my vote? as much as i read about the 100A i think.. well... I WANT THE DAMN THING!

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

Hey Shai, I'm with you... With the DVX100, Panasonic knocked the ball clean out of the park. That camera totally changed my impression of the company -- especially with Jan, Stuart, and Steve making themselves so available. They got nearly everything exactly right. With the 'A', especially with the new 12-bit DSP and a revamped lens for fewer chromatic aberrations, I just think they've likely got it right. I won't sell my existing DVX just yet, but I may buy a second camera, and it'll definitely be an 'A'. Still waiting to see how much more expensive it will be. Some reports say $500, some say $1000. I guess we'll know more in a couple of weeks at DVExpo!

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

Mad.. A little birdy tells me to wait a month before you buy that sdx900 :)

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

I didn't vote for it, but I definitely would be willing to look at it if it actually came out. If they upgrade it to being competitive as far as pro features (real XLR audio, not a Beachtek wannabe solution, etc) and it's 3CCD/HDV, then I'm definitely interested.

If it's a warmed-over XL1s (like the PD170) then we can probably safely write Canon off our shopping lists...

(of course, since we've been waiting for the XL2 for... going on 5 years now... there's nothing to say we'll see it any time soon).

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

I was about to say ... again... I wrote of Canon a few years back. too bad.. as if they kept the XL1 path flowing they pretty much coulda kept on top of the industry. Even now if the XL2 arrived and ran circles around the DVX, people who have already switched to the Panasonic camp may be comfortable staying on board, considering the rapid upgrade cycle the DVX is on.

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

no way am i buying the 100A! the 100 rocks as is, and all those extra options in 24p mode I'm actually glad to not have in my camera. it keeps me in line with lighting a shot fully and properly and working out any problems that may arise. i like not having to resort to "oh well, the camera will do everything for me".
anyone else feel this way?

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

i fancy the option of the straight gamma with the knee on the highs and the 12bit A/D...
someone said something about upgrade with 400$.. i would go for it

Re: AG-DVX100A: Buying One?

The upgrade idea was floated on several forums - it's been confirmed that no upgrade will be available
