Hi there,

Does anybody know if there's a driver or shareware that could make my DVX compatible with iChat AV — as we say in France : "Who that can the most can the least" (sounds better in french ;))

Thanks

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

You should be able to just use it connected to the firewire port... it should see it as a normal webcam.

I use the isight however....

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

I've found it depends on your connection.. I get pretty fluid images out of the isight...

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

fluid... no choppy
the quality on the co=chatter monitor depends on the connection of course.

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

yeah, ichat just sees whatever is connected via firewire... it sees my dv deck sometimes if I have it on...

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

Sorry folks, but it really DOESN'T WORK for me. I plug the DVX, turn it on, then launch iChat, and.......................................... (for eternity) : "no camera on this computer." iChat says.
Of course, I've tried following different procedures : iChat first, then connecting the camera, etc. etc.
The FireWire connection works on iMovie but not on iChat (???)
The system is Panther, version 10.3.2 ; the iChat version is 2.0 (v145) ; I have an iBook 600 double USB.
Is there some incompatibility ?

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

Same problem with iChat AV 2.1 (v151) : "No camera connected to this computer" (I imagine this is the message in English — I have it in French...)
I checked on the System profiler (or whatever the name of the soft-where-you-can-see-what's-connected-to-your-computer is in english) and it detects the camera, tells me the model and everything...
Only this goddamn mother...ing iChat doesn't want to work with it.
I've understood there are several of you guys who do it by just following the usual procedure on a Mac — plug and enjoy. So it looks like a bug.
When everythings seems OK, it's hard to tell where the problem comes from...
I keep on investigating, not that I need ICHat this much but I make it a question of principle.
Thanks anyway for your support (Shai, you're unbelievably gifted — your films look wunderbachissimo...)

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

thanks anartiste..!

have you tried the support page of apple? if there is an error message, there's also a discussion about it..

Re: AG-DVX100 with iChat AV

I followed Shai's recommandation, went onto the Apple site's forum, and found someone with the same problem.

The answer seems to be, although Apple says a 600 Mhz G3 can handle the job, that the minimum frequency is around 800 Mhz.

I don't have a more powerful Mac at hand, so I won't be able to check this out at once, but it sounds very "Applish", so...

Unless... my DVX, refusing to be downgraded to the status of webcamus vulgaris, makes itself invisible to iChat... I hadn't thought of that but... objects can be so mean sometimes... :P
