AG-AF100 vs AG-AF100A

Hello all. I have a question for the people here who are familiar with both camera models. Here, we all know that the AF100 wasn't perfect and was lacking of some basic fonctions & abilities (ex.: 60 fps shooting). Then came later the AF100a with those updates & a paying firmware update for the former model with some (if not all) of the new upgrades so both models get on the same level with their functions.

My question is does all the updates made on the AF100a comes with this firmware now avalaible for the AF100, or does it have other exclusive upgrades (physical of firmware) for itself only (AF100a) ?

Thanks to answer

I picked up an "A" version a few months back never having owned the previous model. I know it has enhanced focus assist (magnification), enhanced audio, 1080/60p, and added LCD "safe zone" markings. There is also the "10-bit" (enhanced 8-bit) 4:2:2 external capture option as well. My guess is the firmware upgrade hits the major elements of the "A" version, and may omit minor ones, but that's just a guess.

The firmware provides the 2.39:1 "safe zone" marking and the 1080/60p recording. That's all.

The AF100A has those upgrades, but it also has hardware changes too. It has the 10-bit output and it has the magnified focus assist.

Ok, new question here. How are the dynamic range & low light performance on the ag-af100a vs the one on the ag-af100 ? Any serious improvement on both values ?

Remember though that the 10-bit output is just up-rezzed 8-bit... Did the A take care of the gradient smoothness?

We haven't heard a lot about that here, but I would say that over the years I've been using the AF100 I rarely see it in camera or right on the timeline out of the camera. It usually rears up when I put it up on Vimeo but the first generation exports always look pretty clear of blocking or banding in gradients.

The A does smooth out the gradients. No banding when using an external recorder. I'm DPing an indie production with the AF100A and a Ki Pro Mini. Will post side by sides of the internal codec and the 220mbps ProRes at some point...

Good. I'd like to see that too.
