After increasing clip speed, I cannot make edits...

I'm a newbie with a series of clips shot at 24p from the 7D.

Doing a few clips at a time, I change their speed from 100% to 1000%.

I make sure I render them.

The clips then look shorter, and they playback perfectly in the timeline / canvas.

IF I make cuts or changes to these new clips, playback pauses and gives me a drop frame warning...

Is there something I'm supposed to do to the clip after editing?

Am I supposed to edit BEFORE changing speed?

Please help.

my sequence setting is
apple prores 422 (HQ) 1920-1080 24p 48khz.

all i did was import the files.

i'm totally new at this.

i realize this has nothing to do with the fast motion. i'm doing something wrong about bring the files into the FCP7... this just can't be right.

thank you
after a more thorough search and some help from a friend, i now understand that converting is definitely an integral part of the process.
