After in 1394 mode, camera won't switch back to other modes

Quick question: When I hook the camera up to my G5 computer and hold the button in to make it a 1394 device, after I have imported all of the P2 data into Final Cut Pro and have ejected the camera's NO NAME drive, I can not get out of the 1394 device mode without turing the camera's power off and on. Is this normal or what am I doing wrong? What if I just wanted to switch back to camera mode?

Thanks!

That's normal. The only way to get out of 1394 device mode is to power cycle the camera. Using 1394 how long does it take for you to copy over from your P2 card(s)??? Also, what size are they.

Thanks

Thanks for the response!

I only have 1 4GB card right now.

I ordered 2 8GB cards in December, but I still don't have them (B&H blames Panasonic). I'm not sure what's taking so long.

A full 720pn 4GB card seems to take less time than digitizing from tape. It's not super fast in Final Cut Pro, as the files have to be made into quicktime files (FCP can't use the files in their native format I believe). I hope that changes in the future (then we will see very fast ingest).

When I fill up the card with 1080 footage, it seems to take longer. I'm not sure (it's the same amount of data).

I'm sorry I can't be more specific. I've never timed the process. I'm just recalling this information from memory.

I sure know that I like P2 import way better than digitizing from tape!
