Hi,

x2mag68 invited me to renew my request on this forum written before in another.

I am newbie on this forum. I am 47 and living in France. Excuse my poor
english-american.

I had one Panasonic NV-GS400 which was destroyed in my home burning last
November/24. Could anyone help me with advices ?

I liked much the GS400 (zebra, manual diaphragm) with Audio-Technica AT822
microphone but I hope to buy a better and stronger cam.

Is the DVX100B a good choise for my pupose ?

I use cam in harsch conditions, ie mountains, dirty and moisty environment,
specially in French South Alps, and further in Tibet. I love take people in
documentary. I need a cam has which has a good autonomy in energy. I like
beautiful pictures and practice Photoshop since 6 years.

What will bring DVX100 moreover to me than the GS400 ? I read the Web
booklets, but I need especially your experience feedback, because it is an
expensive purchase.

Thanks.
Best wishes,

Xpl from Lyon, France

First, I'm very sorry that your house burnt down. That's very tragic.

Second, I'm not sure what the GS400 is, but it sounds like with the conditions you are describing that you might want to look into the new HVX for its solid state elements. I'm not certain, but it would seem like bypassing the tape drive mechanism will see P2 cards being a bit more rugged.

The still frames exported from a progressive setting of the DVX, we actually used in a tourism brochure. BUT I imagined the kind of work you do is almost run and gun and in documentary work you described you could use a camera with, long recording times and less hassles and with a long lens. The FX1E could be your choice. The colors for documentary, nature work is appropriate. The Long 13 x lens is useful in outdoors and nature shots.

Thanks

Thanks

Dear insanityfw and teddybear,

Thanks a lot for your useful reply.

I think that the choice od FX1E or HVX is rather a prosumer choice. I am an amateur who likes beautiful images without wanting to acquire one expansive material. I must also repurchase material for my house.

Best wishes,

I'd look into the AG-DVC30, xpl. It has the same magnesium alloy casing as the DVX, but for about half the cost. Its a great camera, and a step up from the GS400.
