Hi,

I am newbie on this forum. I am 47 and living in France. Excuse my poor english-american.

I had one Panasonic NV-GS400 which was destroyed in my home burning last November/24. Could anyone help me with advices ?

I liked much the GS400 (zebra, manual diaphragm) with Audio-Technica AT822 microphone but I hope to buy a better and stronger cam.

Is the DVX100B a good choise for my pupose ?

I use cam in harsch conditions, ie mountains, dirty and moisty environment, specially in French South Alps, and further in Tibet. I love take people in documentary. I need a cam has which has a good autonomy in energy. I like beautiful pictures and practice Photoshop since 6 years.

What will bring DVX100 moreover to me than the GS400 ? I read the Web booklets, but I need especially your experience feedback, because it is an expensive purchase.

Thanks.
Best wishes,

Xpl from Lyon, France

You wıll not be dısappoınted by anythign from a DVX. The difference between a GS400 and a DVx100b is vast.

My DVX has never let me down. Ive shot ın Humid climate, Dry climate, extreme cold. Hardly anything causes a malfunction. Just try and prevent the lens from fogging up. haha! and quıte obviously keep it out of direct rain. a rain slicker will be a plus if youre taking ıt to places with extreme weather.

hope you enjoy ıt!

PS this is in the wrong forum. try the " hardware forum" or the "Cafe"

Dear x2mag68 and all users,

I thank you for your contribution, which invites me to invest in the way of the DVX100. I will renew my call on the forum "hardware" that you specify me.

Best wishes,

You must tell me how you compare the GS400 and the DVX100. I have a GS400 myself and am in love. If only it had 24p lol. Other than that ide love to hear how it compares to the dvx100a.

in interlace the 400 puts out a nice picture. especially when the scenery is evenly lit. But a DVX is just a higher class of camera. The difference is in the cameras ability to handle low light, over exposure, and very harsh contrast. The Dvx has a broader dynamic range when it shoots standard video, and looks great. BUT: you can activate the DVX,s CINEgamma in interlace mode and then it produces remarkable looking standard video.

My friend has a gs400 and ive seen the footage. its nice. but thats it ( in comparison to DVX, if you compred a GS400 to a $300 JVC bottom barrel Minidv cam, it would blow it out of the water too.) No offense Kyle, i had a Sony TRV70 before i bought my DVX, and i used to love that too, but once you get spoıled by the better image you just cant go back....

The GS400 is nice, but its no DVX.

i am not even going to mention the progressive scan modes. XPL. i will leave you to be amazed by yourself. Just dont pan left and right too quickly with a DVX in 24p. haha.
