After Effects time remap problems, Media Encoder output problems...

Hello everybody, this is my first post!

I've been running into a few problems with AVCHD footage shot with my HMC151. First of all, I tried to time remap some of the shots in After Effects CS4 but it resulted in crashes, repeated frames, ripple distorsions. Also the program would freeze sometimes during render.

The second problem is with Adobe Media Encoder. I tried to output my short film with the MPEG-2 blu-ray or the H.264 blu-ray presets but I got some missing frames, some repeated frames and some out of sync audio. I get that every time I try it but on different shots. Outputting to DVD works perfectly though.

The footage was shot in 1080/24p and edited on a Core i7 920, 3Gb RAM, nVidia Quadro 1700 video card computer.

Any help would be appreaciated. Thanks!

I have yet to be able to get AVCHD files from the HMC150 to work in After Effects -- and this is as recent as last week on an Intel i7 system. I haven't had crashes -- but the frame skipping is intolerable. For anything that goes into After Effects from the HMC150 I've had to transcode.

Premiere Pro, on the other hand, has been outstanding with HMC150 "PH" AVCHD. With the current version of PP and an Intel i7 -- editing HMC150 files is almost indistinguishable from editing DVCPROHD in terms of performance. Really -- it's now fun and enjoyable editing raw HMC150 files!

BUT -- the problem is clearly with After Effects -- I feel your pain and share the headaches -- and the best solution I've found is to transcode.

Good luck!

Well, I searched a little more and I found out that if your CPU usage reaches 100%, you'll get frame drops. And guess what? Mine reaches 100% whenever I try to transcode to DVD. I can't even burn a DVD now to watch my film. If I want to watch it properly I have to run it from the Premiere project. I just can't understand why an i7 can't encode properly and reaches 100% usage.

As for After Effects, I tried to transcode to MPEG-2 blu-ray but the results weren't satisfactory. What format worked for you?

Thanks!
