AF200 at NAB? - EDIT - no, it's a false rumor

He gives a great review based on very little information, no hands on experience, and zero side-by-side footage comparisons with any of the cameras he puts the FS100 up against. I'd take everything on that site with a grain of salt because he often makes bold claims in order to draw traffic towards his site.

I also expect that if a new Panny is shown in the AF100 line-up, then we'd be looking to 2012 for delivery.

Could be true. Don't know.

But, the main reason I doubt this is because they're calling it the "AF200." Most successive Panasonic products are simply given a letter extension. A la, DVX100B, or HVX200A.

I could, however, see Panasonic with a mock-up of a camera that's a step up from the AF100. Maybe something more along the lines of a competitor for the Sony F3, but not quite reaching the specs of the Varicams.

Interesting to conjecture on and on about.

some of the rumour sites are ok and pretty well connected.... this site does not seem to be one of them. In fact, if you look at the comments on the FS100 "review" you will see his "trusted source" is just a random poster... and the website owner replies and says it wont happen... a few hours later, this post arrives.

He used AF200 because he doesn't know the real moniker. It's just his pen name for it. Don't take that as gospel.
But after again reviewing his take on the FS100, I see he doesn't actually have hands-on experience. So, the "review" isn't one at all.

I wll meet with a Panasonic rep today at a Panny demo. You can bet I'll grill him on this and the rumored new ENG cams.

So, for now, this is one big rumor, totally unsubstantiated. Still, I thought you AF100 users might be interested.

edit - oops, just saw Jan's rebuttal. Thanks, Jan, I guess we can lock this thread up.

Frankly I like my job and if I told you I would probably not have my job. And I just don't think the forum can support me in my way of life with donations that might come pouring it. ;-)

Sorry. I can only tell you what is not going to be there.

Best,

Jan

We'll be exploring what will and won't be at NAB extensively in other threads. It should be a great show!

I see that the original rumor has morphed again into now that there's going to be a "whole new line". Except -- as I asked Jan to verify -- she said that there is absolutely NOT going to be ANY large-sensor cameras shown, released, discussed, talked about, hinted about, or otherwise revealed or presented at NAB, other than the AF100. There is not any AF200, or AF300, or AF100A, or anything whatsoever like that of any type, kind, style, nor will there be any way to misinterpret what she said. I asked for absolute clear hard facts with no wiggle room, and that's what she said -- there will be NO new large imager cameras shown other than the AF100. Period.

In other words, there is absolutely zero credibility to this. I see it's sprayed all over twitter and other places, but it's just fiction, guys. Just absolute complete fiction. No more credence to it than if we were to start talking about the new JVC HD990, a 32K ultra-high-def 4D surround-sound pocket camera.

People who post this stuff have a responsibility to do at least a little homework to find out if there's anything credible at all in what they're posting. In this case it has been categorically disavowed by the product manager who would be the single most knowledgeable person in the country for anything like that.
