AF101E Video Noise on Black parts of the image - looks like snow

Are all those specs on the black and grey squares noise? Man that first image looks really soft, as if it's slightly out of focus, especially on the orange square, it overlapse the black edge by about a sixteenth of an inch. Did you just change iso without changing anything else?

I don't have the 370 footage here, it was at a friends studio unfortunately.

The noise I'm seeing isn't your traditional HVX200, DVX100 high gain noise, it's like a snowing effect.

Poor little 5D on the end.

I have looked at this new camera on three different properly set up monitors through sdi and my first impression is that it is noisy.

Man that sucks, I feel bad for you. I would be bummed if my new cam was having issues like this. I think if I were you I would send it back and try out another one. Which will be a pain in the butt.

Theres even the noise in the bark of the tree. I'm going to bed now and hoping I can find a solution before Monday, otherwise I don't think I can use this on next week's job. I'd love to know how others have gotten such clean images.

Im seeing noise on mine too (noise that are acceptable)
but anything above 20-30 IRE is clean... im viewing on a crappy monitor on a crappy laptop.

then i viewed it on my desktop with premiere cs5
can hardly see any noise

The noise that I see is while viewing an sdi output directly from the camera on a properly set up professional monitor, and I think that it is unacceptable.

Forgive me if I've missed some information in this thread; I've a few questions:

1. From whom did you purchase the AF100?
2. Have you spoken with them? Results?
3. Have you spoken to Panasonic about the problem? Their response?
4. Do you have access to another AF100 to check for the same phenomenon? I'll bet a forum member with a camera will help if you are in the same area.
5. Have you posted a clip for evaluation by the forum members?

It would be helpful to know all camera settings, lighting and lens data.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I plan to look at the images from the camera next week in more detail and hopefully compare it to another camera, I just took delivery of the camera this past Thursday. The noise that I am seeing is before recording the image, viewing from the camera sdi output directly to a monitor. I have tried numerous camera settings all with a Canon 16-35L in an area lit by natural daylight and 4600K fluorescent.
