AF101 performed well on Zacuto shootout

I agree that all cameras have their strengths and weaknesses - and all I was saying was that (to put it in the terms Shooter uses above) one of the AF100's weaknesses compared to some of the other (more expensive) cameras is its compressed dynamic range, and position on the scale.

These things make the camera a little less forgiving, and force you to pay VERY close attention to your lighting and exposure (which, of course, you should be doing anyway). My limited experience with the Sony F3 indicates it's a little more forgiving in this respect (due, one would surmise, to its wider dynamic range).

I think its one of the things that led to people griping about the picture quality of the AF100 early on; they didn't understand these traits, or how to best work within them (along with proper settings and getting the best out of scene file combinations of Detail/Gamma/Matrix).

IMO: Mostly correct Steve ...but dont consider it a "weakness" necessarily.

Its what we have got to work with when we use it. So go for it.

Work within that tool ...and it flies.
Dont compare it with anything else but use the comparisons to understand the tool. Comparisons are a futile without context.
eg.In the test vid -- listen to the opinions of some great D.Ps.

I really think we need to get rid of the apologetic "more expensive camera" demeaning diminutive. .. "its a really great image considering the price of the camera"

Well that I do agree with.

Thats the "dimunitive apolgetic view of your equipment" and I dont agree with it. ( I only quoted the oft used apologetic "theme")

Cheap camera in skilled hands = better results than ... great camera in un skilled hands.

No "cheap camera apology" needed ....IMAGE... speaks for it self.

Just my opinion but I saw nothing in the test that would justify me spending more than $4795.00 on a camera.

we have only seen part one of the test correct? Besides, I'm sure if you tested 12 chisels... at the end of the day it wouldn't matter. Whichever one da Vinci was given would result in a masterpiece.

Yes! Admittedly I like to geek out on cameras and gear... But at the end of the day, the work alone speaks for itself.

must have been kind of fun for the lighting guys .

"Hey guys, you know all that stuff they told you never to do in school?
Well, we're going to do them all today."
