AF101 - Jitter/Judder/Strobing/Ghosting Issue

Hi there,

Really hoping for a resolution to my problem, but i think i'm up a certain creek.

I've shot some products in a studio using a slider, and the majority of my shots seem to suffer a jitter issue.

I've attempted warp stabliser, interpreting footage at different frame rates, and all sorts, but it appears my source footage is no good.

I shot on 2 cameras, an AF-101 at 25fps, and a DSLR at 23.97fps.

Examples of the footage can be seen below:

25fps:

23.97 fps:

You'll see, particularly on the DSLR footage an incredible amount of jitter between frames.

My question is simply, can this be fixed without a reshoot? A reshoot is completely out of the question here, the cost of the products involved and studio time takes this project way over budget.

Am i screwed?

Thanks very much for your help in advance.

Kind Regards,

Jof Davies

You could try throwing RealSmart MotionBlur on there from revisionfx. My reckoning is you're panning too fast for such a closeup shot, some Motionblur might be your only hope...

If you have access to After Effects, try the Timewarp effect, and make sure that the Enable Motion Blur checkbox within the Timewarp effect is checked. Footage looks much smoother when I did this to the DSLR footage.

Edit: you'll want to slow the footage down in the Timewarp effect (Speed = 50) for it to look good.

Yeah a bit quick there at those FPS rates. You could try a programme called ReSpeedr. It is an amazingly good programme capable of producing slo mo from normal frame rates- works best at 50/60fps of course, but you don't have that . Downloadable-might be worth a try.
Cheers!

Hi everybody,

Thanks for your feedback.

I combated the problem in most parts by slowing the various shots to between 200% and 300% and applying CC Force Motion blur in AE, with the settings whacked to the highest. then back in Premiere i applied Warp Stabliser to sort out camera jitter.

You can see the Finalised Zico footage here for an example.

Must be more careful in future though.

Thanks again.
