maybe 12 Volt is abit much for the AF101... the Canon Adapter did have a 8,4 Volt Regulator in it.. and i cant find any Regulator mentioned in the description of the Panasonic Adapter.. AF101 needs 7,2 Volts... maybe its that...

interesting link i received from the User adolgin in another thread ..
http://dolgin.net/FAQ.htm

little quote from that site:

"Q. My camera requires 7.2V DC power, but the battery I want to use is 7.4V. Will it work?

A. All Li-Ion DV batteries measure up to 8.4V for the fully charged, down to about 6V discharged. This is true for any brand, make, model. It has something to do with how the Li-Ion chemistry works. All modern smaller size cameras are designed to operate in this range (6V-8.4V). This is true no matter what the label says (7V, or 7.2V, or 7.4V). In other words, labeling for the camera voltage is just that - labeling. Actual voltage depends on the battery state of charge."

Pretty straight forward.

The system your using for your 5D is from Hawk woods. Their system works by having a straight up 12v distribution box, and then the dummy battery adapter cable has an 8.4v regulator built in so it works with the 5D.

IDX systems work differently, they have an adapter plate which regulates the power at the source so their cables dont have the regulator built in like the Hawk Woods systems. Electrically speaking this probably more sound.

Anyway so what you need to do is return that cable and get a cable with the voltage regulator built in such as this one - http://www.abelcine.com/store/Switronix-XP-Cable-for-AF100/
