AF100 wouldn't stop recording

Neil, I think that is why I am here, so need more documentation on if and when it happens. It isn't happening to every one. I would appreciate it if everyone that had the problem would send me a Private Message with your serial number.

Thanks,

Jan

Jan, sorry, didn't mean to sound rude or critical.

Your exchange with Bern about the card has raised a couple of questions for me, not sure if they'll be of any help; what make, class and size of card were people using - I was going to ask if the cards had been in a mac or pc, though I use a mac, I'm pretty sure I was using a new card that hadn't been in the computer yet. Anyways, it was a Transcend Class 10 16gig.

It's more than likely nothing to do with cards, but just trying a process if elimination. I think we've probably shown it's not moisture, heat or modes. I'm in the UK so was using PAL settings and I presume Bern in the US was using NTSC?

I will PM you my details and Serial Number.

Just to mention, I'm in the UK and Bern is in the US , so our Cameras are probably not from the same batch - though this may be presumptuous of me - I've no idea how your distribution works.

So far it doesn't seem to have happened to any of the posters more than once - curious.

So, if anyone has had this happen more than once, please post.

Neil,

Excellent idea. yes, please also include the make of the cards you were using as well. And all the cameras are built at roughly the same time as they are 50/60Hz switchable. Not sure the computer is relevant other that the inability to retrieve and recover. So maybe that info as well.

Thanks,

jan

Jan,

The AF100 that had the problem is not mine, but I know it was purchased mid-March at Abel Cine Tech in LA. I'll PM the Serial Number when I can get it.

The SDHC was either a 16 GB Transcend Class 10, or a 32 GB Lexar Gold. The editor will likely remember as he handled file recovery.

Best,
Bern

I've already PM'd Jan with my serial but to complete the details talked about here: the card was Lexar Gold 32 GB. The camera was bought in the U.S. (B&H) but I switched it to PAL. No special settings or mode.

I mentioned the computer used as I remember there being a problem with macs writing hidden/double/bogus files to the cards which became highlighted when people were doing the firmware updates.

Just trying to cover all eventualities - explore all avenues.

Perhaps people could also post whether the problem occurred before or after the firmware update.

In my case I'm pretty sure it was before the update.

Neil.

Out of interest Bern, what did you do to the PR410 to make it fit? I've got one and it's a dog, plus it takes up way too much room in my bag.

I'd cut the little cinch cord that goes around the EVF, but so far I still haven't had to actually use a rain cover.

I'm picking up a Portabrace rain cover today to see if it fit's over Olof's handle, & shoulder bracket. The camRade doesn't, & as you stated, the Petrol eats too much space in the bag,

One of my AF-100s just came back from a rental where the DP had this happen to him as well.

Normal inside interview situation, not moist, not overly hot.

Couldn't get the camera to stop recording.

Strange.

ETA, card was a Panasonic Gold 32gb.

Okay, so Engineering is wanting to put this into a chart to see if there are any common threads.

So the columns are: Serial Number of camera, Software version on the camera at the time of incident, Date of incident, Manufacturer and size of SDHC card, Recovery software Run? Files saved?

And please do not post your serial numbers here, put them in a PM to me.

Thanks everyone.

Jan

you can DEFINATLY expect corrosion to form on the boards inside the camera. Make sure you get it checked out ASAP. No matter how good its doing "now".
