AF100 Virgin

I own an advertising agency and do all creative from logo design to websites and broadcast tv. I have a Panasonic AGHPX370 that I love and use four times per week. We shoot a weekly news tip for www.tobytobin.com that airs on our NBC affiliate and I produce about 25 to 30 tv spots per year. We are doing a lot more web streaming tips for a lot of our clients. My brother has become a decent photog and I want to add a second setup to our arsenal.

I create everything for our clients. I do all 3d animation, editing, writing, video, stills, design, etc. Just keeping up on software and staying creative is a challenge. So when it comes to purchasing something in this realm I'm feeling pretty stupid!

I have tons of still equipment (Canon 50d and 60d) and lots of great L Lenses. ( I do understand there is no L Lens Adapter for the AF100 yet but perhaps Berger is coming out with one).

I really want to have our second camera give me the ability to shoot our spots where we use actresses in speaking scenes, landscape video of golf courses and real estate, food video, etc. to have that pretty bokeh look I get from my good Canon L Lenses. I have read every forum and watched every video on the planet and am still a bit confused.

I'm a classically trained news photographer and later on air talent who has picked things up by the seat of my pants. I still don't know all the terms but get by from shooting a 100 stills to get 20 great shots and shoot video by feel.

I'm not the classic f-stop, 35 vs 95mm understanding guy when it comes to gear.

I'm trying to find out what the best first lens that will give me good quality video for various applications until the adapter comes out for the L Lens. I'd like to eventually buy a shoulder rig to mimic some ENG shooting scenarios that doesn't cost $2,000. Is a follow focus important? I'm getting so confused and never shot movie style stuff. I've gotten by being more of an ENG type guy building what I need.

I really want to buy this camera, it appears I can do a lot with it to add versatility to our agency.... but I just need some proper virgin direction so I don't spend needless $$$

Any help from you guys who have your favorite overall daily lens? Do I need a mat box?

Please help!

Thanks,

Jack.

Yeah, you're operating under a mistaken assumption -- there is, in fact, an electronic lens adapter for all your Canon L lenses. Go to www.redrockmicro.com and look up the AF100 LiveLens adapter. That should get you up and running really quickly!

I tend to look at equipment purchases from a business standpoint.

A: you already have a great shoulder cam with the HPX370 which beats the AF100 shoulder franken rigged ergonomics.
B: both Redrock and MTF make controllable lens mount adapters for EF lenses.
C: there is absolutely no reason you can't get pretty bokeh from your current cam if you know your way around its lens.
D: ROI, does 2.5 commercials a month justify a new camera and all the accessories you will need to purchase.
E: could you not just use your 60D for your pretty bokeh shots, or shallow DOF.

Just a few things to think about.
