AF100 viewfinder: when do you use it?

Also, this may be obvious and not your gripe, but did you adjust the viewfinder for your vision? I find that can make a huge difference and one that's easy to forget to do--after another shooter has used the camera I've gone through the "what's wrong with the viewfinder?!" before remembering to adjust it back for my eyesight....

The EVF diopter is touchy. I have to check it every time I set up and during shooting. Gets knocked out of setting very easy.

Yeah, not sure where the issue is completely. When outside Im always on the EVF and have never had an issue with it.

Couple of points - people are aware of the diopter adjustment? There is also the most accurate way to measure focus - tape measure. Probably the cheapest and one of the most useful additions to the AF100 is the tape measure hook.

I think the Zacuto EVF has many pros compared to the built in EVF. But I'm glad there's a built in EVF when you just want to bring the camera and not mount alot of shiiiit on it.

I'm 99% with you Noel.

I long for something like the GH2 viewfinder because it is the perfect image size. I find the evf solutions like the Zacuto and Cineroid are too magnified. The AF100 EVF on the other is not large enough.

...guilty - I went through 2 shoots before I pulled the thing apart in disgust - and then stumble upon the that darn little piece of plastic - it's like a little disc of ND - now B+W with peaking and the FA on user #3 - good to go...

Does the Zacuto EVF offer red peaking? When I last looked at it, there was peaking for focus assist - but not in red.

But then I thought I read here that this might be added in a firmware update.

Im actually totally cool with they way the peaking works on the Zacuto right now.

Exactly! Of course a Zacuto EVF might look a little better but for me, 95% of the time I'm quite pleased with the AF100 EVF in B/W with detail or red peaking (not both) and can truthfully say I've never missed a focus mark with this camera. With Olof's shoulder mount the AF100 EVF is right at eye level and on the sticks I sometimes do use an apple box to see clearly. The only thing I don't see is why so many complaints about a perfectly functional EVF.

I believe that little ND disk is there by design and meant to keep the internals clean of dust etc.

When I got my AF102 ...there was an additional piece of easi-peel clear vinyl that I removed.

BTEW: running out a tape for focus is fine if you are using pro cine lenses. Not much use on still lenses that usually have very small increments on a narrow range with dubious calibration of the marks.

I use the viewfinder all the time, I really like using viewfinders in general but the AF 100 viewfinder is really bad, it tends to have ghosting images of highlights unlike the hmc 150 or dvx 100.
