Color correction: slightly crushed blacks

it looks great. The Vivitar looks sharp. I can't really see any difference in quality, at least at this compression.
Can you tell a difference between the quality of the lenses in the original footage?

It does look good, and second the request for info on the original footage. I realize that you shoot under very over cast conditions, but where did the color go? I really dig the desaturated look, did you do anything special to get that?

The main difference between the Vivitar and Nikon I noticed in this test was that the Nikon gave me slightly richer colors, and breathing was a bit more prominent in the Vivitar. I'm amazed with the Vivitar, especially considering I bought it used for $31!!!

To get that desaturated look of the graded (2nd) version, I gave the darker & mid-tones a blueish tint, and some orange in the highs, crushed the blacks a bit more and slightly boosted whites for extra contrast.

I've got an adapter from Adorama (their own brand, but it seems generic) and one from Rainbowimaging, that allows you to use lenses without aperture ring, it basically opens up the iris completely.
My Vivitars are Nikon F mount by the way

these are the kind of tests that I like, proof that you can get good looking footage with cheap lenses. Very encouraging.
