AF100 quick green screen test

This was just a quick green screen test I did with my AF100 and FCP X, using only one LED light:

Sorry it's not properly lit because I only have one light at the moment.

But please let me know how the chroma key looks and what I can do to improve my chroma keying.
I used FCPX's built in chroma key feature. I'll try doing another test, with a properly lit scene and next time I'll use AE Keylight.

Just wanted to see how FCPX handles chroma keying. I didn't think FCPX did that bad a job considering that I did not light the scene properly.

Thanks in advance for any advice / feedback.

Key techniques involve a few things. 2 main ones.

Lighting the BG is simple. Flat even lighting of a flat chroma surface ....exposed approx 2 stops below the subject. Maintain as much distance between subject and bg as possible.

Subject lighting is slightly more involved but its exactly the same as you would normally light any particular subject. You do not have to flat ligh the subject as you seem to be proposing. A single key light source , a back light and some reflectors will work fine. Always check what rim and backlight light is happening on your subject. Its very helpful to pulling a good key in post.

Key Considerations:

Avoid bounce from the BG ( fringe color)

Know what the BG is in the case of a comp....and ensure light directions , shadows, highlights ..."fit
/work together. ie light subject according to the BG

Choose lenses for the subject that fit / work with your bg in the case of a comp. Makes no difference if you are doing a "news reader" type key though.

Post work on your sample key - needs some edge softening and a bit more processing from the tools to smoothly integrate the FG and the BG

Hi Shooter, thank you very much. That was really helpful. I'll do a better test following your advice. Thanks again for taking the time to explain this.

This is the best advice you will get on green screen shooting. Nice job Shooter.
