AF100 question relating to Zeiss ZF cine-moded and CP2 primes

I have an AF100 (my main camera) and a GH2 (my B-cam) and happen to own a set of Zeiss ZF prime lenses (35, 50, 85mm respectively).

Does it make more sense to cine-mod my ZF lenses or am I better off buying one Zeiss CP2 lens like a 50mm or 35mm?

I know I could cine-mod all three of my lenses for less than the price of one Zeiss CP2 lens.
But the reason I'm seriously considering this much higher end option is that I plan on one day getting the Sony F3 or Red Scarlet camera.

With that in mind, is better to plan ahead and go straight for at least one Zeiss Compact Prime 2 lens?

Thanks for any advice/feedback.

I am no expert, but been researching Zeiss cine glass lately and have some information to share. Entry level Zeiss CP.2 primes are based on Zeiss ZF. So the optical characteristics are very similar. The major differences appear in the more standardized body profile, interchangeable mount, cine-like mechanics (no clicking, smooth rotation, throw), and more iris blades. So the benefits of the CP.2 line vs. ZF are more in their lifecycle and handling, and less (if anything) in optical performance. It is up to you to decide if the CP.2 differences are worth the upgrade. From a purely optical performance and investment perspective and, considering that you already have a ZF set, I would say stay with what you've got. If you were looking to step-up to, say, Zeiss Ultra primes or Master primes, then the benefits would also include substantial optical advantage. Moving from ZF to CP.2 is more like a lateral move IMHO.

In terms of the forward compatibility with upcoming camcorders, I recommend to research ZF mount options (e.g., adapters) and imager coverage with the target equipment. The Zeiss CP.2 distinct feature is their ability to cover full frame. Hope this helps.

I also have a set of Zeiss ZF cinemodded lenses and they;re great on both AF-100 and GH2. I too plan on getting the "mythical" Scarlett (with interchangable lens option hopefully) and yes, F to PL adpaters are available for using with the F3 or anything from RED.

In my opinion, you're much beter off just modded your existing Zeiss glass; I sent mine to duclos lenses and got them back in a few days. Not to mention the lenses are light enough where you don't need additional support whereas the CP.2 are HEAVY and absolutely require major lens support.
