Af100 problems in fcp

Shot around 6hrs of footage on the af100 last week. Footage looks great and everything is ingested into my fcp 6.06 no problem except for 3 clips over 11 mins that I shot. All of the shorter clips import into fcp via log and transfer no probs, but the longer clips roll thru the whole l&t import routine right til the end then give me the nice red exclamation point. The clips all take about 90 minutes to go thru the import before giving me the red point... So it's like fcp is going thru the entire import and then not completing.

I've imported 400 clips that were successful but anything over 10 mins is not working... Any suggestions???

Did you run the clip repair program? Also, were the problem clips shot around the same time? Can you play the .mts files off the card with vlc or movist?

I can see the clips in l&t no probs and can view them in a vlc program I have. The clips were shot on different days and were the only longer clips that I shot. Didn't run the clip repair program, not sure what that is... Can I download it?

Downloaded clip restorer. Ran it. Said it found something to fix. Long clip still won't come in. Any other suggestions?

I have had that problem with my hmc 150. You can do and out points and bring the clips in in little chunks, or use toast 10. That always works for me. Hope that helps. I dont think it's Af100 problem, I think it's an avchd problem. I am not an expert in why it happens, I just know how to get around it when I need too!

Hope that helps,
Bp

For me, one of the big things that changed from Final Cut 6 to 7 was the handling of AVCHD import via Log & Transfer. It went from 'a bit flaky and rather slow' to 'very quick and entirely solid'. My source has been an HMC150, but I'd assume the AVCCAM data from the AF100 is similar, even if the look of the pictures isn't.

I'd suggest using MPEG StreamClip or Toast to convert the data to ProRes, when you have a problem (it'll be slow!). But do see if you can test on a Final Cut Studio 3 system.

I have only had this happen once and it was because I switched to playback mode too quickly right after shooting the clip. The clip was repairable using the Panasonic software. Using the In and out points is a good suggestion and then finally Clipwrap.

I did the 'in and out' suggestion and it worked. Thanks so much. So if I upgrade to fcp 7 the problem should go away?

Looks like something got garbled at the end of your clips. Make sure you give enough time for the camera to record the clip before switching to playback mode.
