AF100 + PB traveler pocket dolly support question

Just received my Philip Bloom traveler pocket dolly and using it with my AF100.

Question regarding tripod support for these two products.

I currently have a Manfrotto 501 fluid head Bogen tripod. Is this good enough for my setup?
And if so how do you remove the 501 fluid head from the tripod? Is it just enough to remove the three screws underneath?

If not, what would be a recommended tripod for the AF100 and PB traveler dolly?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'm planning on using a simple Linhof ball head on mine with a manfrotto quick release plate on top...give me full range of motion and generally you don't move in multiple axes when sliding anyway. What's nice about the ball head is that its very small and easy to adjust, also weighs much less so when you're off to the side you're less likely to tilt your tripod.

By the way, what is the actual tripod leg model number...not the head...that will be more useful information in gauging what legs you have.

I have two QR plates under my slider to attach tripods or I use two lightstands directly screwed into the slider for a more lightweight setup.

Use the correct tripod....and in most cases, sandbag the spreader...and you'll have no problem. I use (3) 5lb. ankle weights and you can slide right to the end with a pretty heavy rig.
Here's an old picture (1000mm rail) without any sandbags at all...no tipping.

Well there is no way I could use a single tripod to support my slider in it's current configuration, sandbags or not. I generally use a full size 100mm head and riser to mount the camera and accessories, which can get a little hefty. I have also found that using a tripod on one end and something like a light stand on the other, allows too much shift and flexing.

My solution at this point is to use 2 tripods along with heads at each end of the slider. So far this solution has provided the needed stability, as well as given me the ability to tilt both heads allowing for Dutch angles on shots.

All the Best!

Dave
